After cancer nephrectomy, the other kidney is not functioning well

My 57 year old father was diagnosed with kidney cancer last year and underwent a left nephrectomy. Unfortunately, his remaining kidney's function is declining and deteriorating. Is this common?

Ah, this post has his age. Check with the doctor AND pharmacist to see if he is on any medications that might be harming his kidney. I always check for that when taking medications at age 80 ( was 18 when one was removed) and make sure to have him hydrate well. It took my 54 year old son post nephrectomy of 1/2025 awhile to restore to normal levels. Each kudney functions at 50% when we have 2 and it takes awhile to get the one to get more efficient I was told.

@susanris Actually he was also diagnosed with TB at the same time, and some doctor started that medicine 1 month before the operation. And as TB medications are very strong, so that started damaging the kidney. He took that medication for approx. 9 months.
