Gabapentin - being linked to increased risk of dementia
According to a large scale observational study published in the journal "Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine", patients who received frequent gabapentin prescriptions were significantly more likely to develop dementia and/or mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
Researchers analyzed anonymized medical records from tens of thousands of Americans sourced from TriNetX, a federated health research network with electronic health records from 68 healthcare organizations across the country.
They found that patients whom had received six or more gabapentin prescriptions were 29% more likely to be diagnosed with dementia and 85% more likely to be diagnosed with MCI within 10 years of their initial pain diagnosis.

@raebaby When do you take it throughout the day?
I take it three times a day. Morning, afternoon and night. I often forgee the afternoon dose and my feet get more tingly.
What other drugs had those people been taking?
I am 92 years old with no problem and I have been taking gabapentin for 16 years.

So satisfying to hear that…thanks so much for sharing!
Does this study also apply to all gabapentnoids such as Pregabalin aka Lyrica or only Gabapentin?
@sbelur I will repeat what I keep telling others -
Gabapentin is gabapentin no matter where they put it! Every patient’s body is different and there is NO WAY to know how YOU will be affected without trying it! Follow you physician’s advice, take it if prescribed and report back to him. He will evaluate your experience and then y’all can proceed accordingly. This applies to all drugs.
@kathleene72
How long is your husband been taking gabapentin and what's the dose?
Most all seizure meds come with potential cognitive issues. Discontinuing the medication slowly should resolve those cognitive issues.
It's also possible the dementia link is misinterpreted as cognitive side effects. There is no proof gabapentin actually causes dementia.
