@katgob There are BMT people who ultimately end up having a mixed chimerism. From what I understand, as long as the chimerism remains stable, with no signs of relapse, it’s not a cause for concern. But this is a great question to ask your doctor because I’d like to know what he says too!

@vivoconte Hi @vivoconte I’m not certain which person you were replying to, but maybe I can answer your question. Sometimes patients undergoing treatment for leukemia will have followup bone marrow biopsies to check on the progress of the treatment. Because the marrow is the blood manufacturing site in the body, having samples of the core and liquid portion of the marrow can yield details not just seen in the circulating blood.

During my treatment I had 13 bone marrow biopsies. It was always reassuring when the results would show that the disease was in remission.
With diseases such as ET (essential thrombocythemia), unless there is a significant change in blood numbers, doctors don’t often order another bone marrow biopsy.

Muchas gracias por la respuesta, yo fui a una segunda opinión con otro hematologo porque me parece mucha la hidroxiurea qué tomo hace tantos años para mi peso y me indicó una biopsia qué de momento no me voy a hacer porque cuando me hice la que confirmó el diagnóstico de TE hace 12 años atrás tuve fuertes dolores luego de la biopsia y no tengo muchas ganas de pasar nuevamente x eso..

I have a general question about blood tests. If someone gets a blood draw after setting for an hour and feels great then gets a blood draw after doing physical stuff and feels weak and sick, will the reading be different because of the weakness?

@twitt1949 To put this into perspective, our blood values can change throughout the day. When I was recovering from my bone marrow transplant there were times I’d have 3 or more blood draws during any given day. I was surprised to see variations in the results. Meds, food, hydration, kidney function, liver function, etc., can all impact our blood results over the course of a day.

Because you’re in active treatment for AML right now, you are having more frequent blood tests. Your doctors are looking for trends in the numbers. They’re not concerned about normal, minor fluctuations in values.
You’re going to have good days where you feel normal and days where it’s a struggle to get out of bed…
I know you’re not one to sit idle. But for now, it’s ok to rest up.

I had a blood draw yesterday then a bone marrow biopsy right after wards. The test showed that my counts went down a little from a several days prior. Today I had a another blood draw and it showed number came up a little but not quite as high as a week ago. Today they gave me a bag of red blood. Monday I meet with the big daddy doctor about the marrow biopsy results. He's been involved with my blood draw numbers all along but just not on site. I was hoping to see the number go up more than they did.
The RN today also told me that bone density won't affect the way the chemo works.

Será propio de la evolución de la enfermedad o estaré en progresión a mielofibrosis secundaria?
