Hydrocodone vs predisone

Posted by dga76 @dga76, Sep 22 7:02am

My rheumatologist has suggested I stop taking predisone (I've been on it for a year. Currently at a very low dose) and start hydrocodone. Anybody had any experience with this? What about side affects.

If you're talking about hydrocodone/Acetaminophen (generic vicodin) I can tell you it didn't help me with the brutal PMR pain I had prior to diagnosis and taking Prednisone. If your pain is currently at a fairly low level it might work for you. You'll still need to go very slowly and taper by very small amounts each time to try to prevent flares while getting off. The generic vicodin might help with some pain but doesn't do a thing for inflammation type pain. Can help with musculoskeletal and other pains though. Definately need to make a plan to try it and see if it even helps your pain if you currently have any. If you take the generic vicodin type with Acetaminophen you need to remember that Acetaminophen can cause liver problems if take too much. So be sure not to take any other Tylenol or Acetaminophen while using that one.
Always try to use the least amount possible to help your pain. I haven't had any side effects really because I'm very conscious of how much. I do recommend taking it with food as it might upset your stomach (nausea) if no food and drink plenty of water when taking it like any medication. I don't get nausea and can take it on an empty stomach but I'm used to it. I've had chronic pain for decades.
This isn't medical advice because I'm not a doctor, just a patient. I hope you get whatever helps you slowly get off Prednisone. Blessings.
