Gabapentin for non nerve pain?
My doctor wants to put me on gabapentin for flank/rib and chest pain, but Ive been told consistently my pain is musculoskeletal and not nerve related.
Has anyone had success using gabapentin for pain thats not primarily nerve related?
I think she suspects Fibromyalgia which would make sense, but it feels like there are better meds for that as well.
Whats your experience been with gabapentin and musculoskeletal pain or fibro?

Side effects from low-dose amitriptyline? Neurologist recommended to me for vestibular migraine, but also I do have burning in my feet and legs. I also take 0.25 Xanax and then concerned about the two together because of sedation. Also, I know amitriptyline is known to cause weight gain, but I wonder at such a low dose if that’s actually been anyone’s experience?
I take gabapentin for radiculopathy in my leg. It absolutely helps me. So, don’t be too hard on your provider. Sounds like they are just trying to help you. No harm, no foul. Btw small doses have helped women through menopause so it has a bigger profile than you think.

1 ReactionThank you for your post . I'm wondering the same about gabapentin. I suffer from severe abdominal adhesions. Dr recommends gabapentin, but my pain and discomfort is from hardened scar tissue digging into me and my abdomen feels frozen. Should I try the gabapentin? My quality of life is terrible right now. I can't sit up straight or bend forward. Appreciate any help you can give me

2 ReactionsI have been on Gabapentin for over 10 years, I have had to lower my dosage because it made me sleepy during the day. (I also take Tramadol for pain when it gets really bad) It is much better and I am able to sleep better at night. I have Fibromyalgia and CFS, and Arthritis, I'm 76 years old and I am determined to keep moving no matter what. I have always been that way and I'm not going to stop. Yes there are days that I want to scream, so I will limit my activities, but I will not stop. I hope helps some people that live with pain like I do.

2 ReactionsI've used gabapentin the the past & it wasn't to helpful. I had to use a strong dose and it gave me brain fog .. somewhat congnitively impaired. I've been thru most of the pain medicines and have found tramadol 50 mg to be the best. If you use it morning & night, the side effect is constipation. It really takes the pain away & no impact on your cognition. There are may ways to deal with the constipation. I use an off label use of Cialis to take care of the constipation .;; it is not part of the official label but it works for me.
I was put on gabapentin ten years ago (for nerve pain) after I experienced a serious car accident. My sciotic nerve was damaged along with 18 broken ribs & many other broken bones. When I miss a dose I realize how much it helps with other pain I normally don’t feel.
@ranpattiwagner I really do understand your pain. I have had fibromyalgia with migraines since 1982 when I moved to the foothills with the temperature and pressure changes. My migraines finally stopped when I reached 67 but the fibro is still with me. Gabapentin is now the go to drug for everything. All the drugs (flexeril, Tramadol, cymbalta) have now stopped being prescribed for FM. It was the go to drug at one time, but is an anti depressant and has terrible effects when you are not depressed. Remember the pharmaceutical companies had doctors convinced that FM was a change of life condition for women. When men , strong, with jobs that required strength and memory started to get FM they decided to do more research. My doctors and rheumatologists would never prescribe it for me, now, I see many people on gabapentin in chairs like zombies.
I have fibromyalgia, hamstring tendonitis and muscularskeletal pain. Like you I get severe pain in the ribcage area. I saw my mom on Gabapentin and it would make her tired, dizzy and zombie like and didn't help with pain. I'm very sensitive to meds and don't want to try that. I'm trying cymbalta and hydrotherapy. The warm pool weather is very therapeutic. I wish you luck.
