Natural treatment

Posted by sandrajhunt @sandrajhunt, Sep 14 2:31pm

I have been on a five year journey, avoiding prescription meds and going a natural route. I promised I would reveal my stats after my latest bone density scan. My neck has gone from -2.10 to -1.5. My spine has gone from -3.4 to -2.6. Fracture risk has gone from 16% to 12%. I still have osteoporosis, but the numbers keep improving so I will still avoid taking medicine for as long as I can.

No secret 😊. I walk at least 30 minutes every day. I have a 10 minute weight routine that I do five days a week. And I use a bone building supplement powder every day, stirring it into my coffee in the morning.

@sandrajhunt what is your bone building supplement? I have a -3.5 in my left hip and it's been that way for over 5 years. I work out once a week with a physcial therapist for resistance and weight bearing exercises but I think I need something more. I've read of too many reactions to Evenity and I really want something else. Thank you

I walk briskly at least 30 minutes a day seven days a week. I work out with three pound weights for about 15 minutes five days a week. I do 48 “sit to stand” every day. (Sit near the front of a sturdy chair with your feet flat on the floor.Place your feet shoulder-width apart.Cross your arms over your chest.Lean forward slightly from your hips.Push through your heels to stand up straight.Lower yourself back down into the chair with control.)
I also put a scoop of Native Path bone supplement in my coffee every morning.
I know this is not for everyone and I know the drugs work for many so we just each have to find what works and is comfortable for us.

I don’t really know how to put into words what it is that I do exactly. But there are a lot of videos on YouTube about weight exercises for seniors and weight exercises for osteoporosis. I just looked at a whole lot of them and narrowed it down to the ones that felt right or comfortable for me. I also do 30 chair rises a day. I sit on the edge of a sturdy chair and stand with my arms folded against my chest and then sit and quickly rise again for 30 repetitions.

@sandrajhunt I agree weight training, is really important. Can you add impact training. One thing I would suggest as you are walking add stomping for 20 counts. Do that several times during your walk. (Impact)

I use Native Path. I know my “natural path” is not for everyone and many have written about their success with the drugs. We each have to find our own right approach to this difficult journey.

Thank you for posting this Sandra. I love the community on this blog ! Can I ask about both your right and left Femur scores beginning and latest? I was on Evenity for a year and my spine greatly improved but my left Femur is stuck at -2.7. I am contemplating what to do next. Like you, I workout a lot and have been a lifelong runner. I eat really well and have a personal trainer for strength training. I was not expecting ever to be battling Osteoporosis. And I hate the drugs…..Really appreciate the support !
