On Oxygen 24/7 - How Do You Manage?
New to the group, 86 years old. Had a blood clot on a lung last December and on oxygen 24/7 since. Use an oxygen concentrator with a 50 ft hose and either step on it or have it wrapped around my feet way too much of the time.

I got a second oxygen concentrator. Have each one in different parts of the house so that I can use a 25 ft tube and switch back and forth as needed. I think you get better oxygen flow also if 25 ft since 50 is the limit. I still get tangled but not too bad.

2 ReactionsIt takes time to figure out how to manage 50’ of tubing. I have been on oxygen 24/7, since June of 2024 and I will occasionally get tangled up in my tubing. (If I am in a hurry and not paying attention) There is not much you can do to prevent getting “caught up” on kitchen cabinet knobs, and getting caught under furniture and such. Just always watch where your tubing is before you start walking. Make sure it is not near your feet. The last thing you want is to fall! It is an inconvenience sometimes, but we are blessed to have this technology so we can keep on breathing!

1 ReactionRemember to provide for a backup electric supply.
Climate change weather has increased the frequency of
outages in some areas. I bought a battery power storage unit for my CPAP?

1 ReactionDo any of you keep oxygen tanks on hand as a back up?
Also you can ask for shorter tiling lengths & swivels. I time that helpful as well.
I have no tanks as my supplier only offers various stationary and portable concentrators. My 500 watt Power Station will power my POC overnight & then I need to find a place to charge it & depleted POC batteries during the day. Sleeping with my stationary concentrator is better but with outages you have to be flexible. I’m trying to get a battery backup/PV system for our house but it’s challenging sorting through the different bids.
I have Apria as a supplier . I was thinking their company is national wide . They supply me with my large consentrator . I also have an 18 hour tank I can hook up to . I have 20 small tanks in my garage . They resupply those every month. I use the tanks on a cart if I
go out . I take several with me . One of those is good for 2 hours . I do have a Generac generator that keeps my power on if the electricity fails . I think my part to pay to my oxygen provider with the consentrator and the tanks is $ 18 a month. Check to see if Apria is in your vicinity . Best to all , Crystalena
@jlk12 If possible, get green tubing rather than clear. Much easier to see so reduces risk of tripping.
@irenea8 I have one small tank that would only last me about 2-2.5 hours. As far as batteries for my portable oxygen concentrators, I have enough battery power to last me about 28 hours.
@jlk12
how do you get 28 hours from battery power?

1 ReactionI have 2 portable oxygen concentrators. My favorite one that I bought in 2024, I now have invested in a total of 12 batteries which give me a total of 24 hours of battery life. (Each battery provides to 2 hours) My newer one that I bought this year, I only have 4 batteries that last about an hour each. I am on 4L 24/7 so I use up batteries at a faster rate than someone on 2liters. I love to travel and never want to worry about running out of battery power. I was fortunate to find some good deals on eBay. I was hesitant to buy second hand but so far so good.
