Statin and sore lower back!
Hello! I've been on Rosuvastatin for 2 months and everything seemed okay. But one morning I woke up to incredible lower back pain which I've never had before. I've had this pain for almost a week now - so much so that I can't stand straight and it really hurts to walk. I've been icing it, applying heat at times, getting up and walking around my apt. almost every 30 minutes, and I assumed it'd heal fast. I figured I did this from sleeping weird. But now I wonder if it's the statin causing this pain. I've never had back pain before. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

It's taken me a while to write again due to computer/internet issues.
I had a long talk with my doctor, and he doesn't feel my statin is causing or contributing to my lower back pain. He feels my back pain is an injury - a pinched nerve, as a matter of fact. I didn't really notice any difference on the statin but when I woke up one day with lower back pain that prevented me from even standing straight, I did wonder if the statin caused it.
I do trust my doctor a lot and we went through all the steps to take to get my lower back better and I am happy to say that things have improved. I can stand up straight now and walk better. I'm still dealing with pain but it has lessened and I can get out and get my own groceries now.
I'm still keeping an eye on my 'statin' and my doctor is retesting my blood at the 6 month period. My doctor is really into 'quality of life' so he really did listen.

5 ReactionsAre your taking CoQ10 along with the statin? They say it will help with side effects like the pain. Hopefully your doctor will find out the cause and not be related to the statin.
As for pain just showing up - don't know how old you are but I have things like that happen often. I have learned over the years after going to a chiropractor how to self adjust most of the time.

Learning to self-adjust - that's terrific. I haven't taken CoQ10 yet. I have heard great things about it but the side effects scare me a bit. Have you had any side effects from it?
@suesam CoQ10 don't have side effects for most people. The body makes its own but as we age it makes less. If you are on a statin it can deplete CoQ10 so supplementation if often necessary. I have not had any and have taken it off and on - on right now, throughout the years.
Make sure to check with your doctor if on blood thinners and other heart meds though.
@charlotteeb The jury is still undecided about universal supplementation with CoQ10 for those taking statins. Some may/should take it, as individual cases go, but the most recent meta-analyses don't support universal use or suggestions for use:
