Rituxan infusion concerns

Posted by glongdmd @glongdmd, Sep 2 8:42am

I will be starting Rituxan infusions next week to treat pemphigus vulgaris. I would appreciate hearing from those of you who have taken this medication as far as side effects or post infusion susceptibility to illnesses that you may have had to deal with. Thank you!

I had Rituxan infusions for Pemphigus Vulargis in 2004 (4 infusions once a week) and then 2nd round in 2005 (2 infusions). After first 2 infusions, lesions started to heal and after 4th infusion, PV was totally gone. My doctor at John Hopkins in Baltimore, suggested I do a 2nd round 6 months later as I was still weaning off prednisone. 21 years later and PV has never returned. FYI, My doctor advised I would have no side effects and he was correct. Good luck and pray this works for you, too.

Thank you for relating your experience. I had my first treatment last Friday and it was pretty uneventful. No side effects other than the post IV Benadryl fog. I have one more treatment next week and then do a re-evaluation and go from there. Great experience with the infusion staff. All young (to me!) competent RNs with most having some critical care background. Started on a projected 6 hour appointment but after seeing I was having no problems they sped up the infusion and we finished in 4 hours.
