Stage 4 kidney disease

Four months ago my egfr was 35 and creatine was 1.6. Now egfr is 25 and creatine is 2.1. Did anybody else drop that fast. I am scared it is going to continue going down that fast. Some of my other blood work is going down too and I am also having trouble taking deep breath’s. Will they consider doing dialysis sooner. Has anybody else had this happen

That sounds like how much mine falls when I have CAT scans with contrast. By any chance have you had anything with contrast dye have you?

@cindon1977 contrast dye is definitely not good for already unhealthy kidneys. Does your nephrologist know you had a procedure using contrast dye? He/she should be made aware and new bloodwork ordered. Good chance it will improve without starting dialysis.

Cindon1977@cindon1977 welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. A sudden drop in eGFR &/or other kidney lab work merits a call to your doc. The topic of scans with contrast dye came up. If I’m in a situation a scan and contrast dye is being considered I ask that my nephrologist be consulted before proceeding. If you have more than one doctor make sure they all know about your kidney condition so that your medical team is all on the same page so to speak. This is all important to do before you have any future treatments or meds.

@joefriday49 there are different kinds of contrasts…ask your doc to request one…while i got the regular contrast (my #s are not very bad), i requested IV hydration right after my recent CT (my cancer team ordered it) —very helpful—felt better !

It should go back up, but remember kidneys don't ever heal themselves completely. Mine has been up and down for 15 years now but I know it will never be back to where it was when all this started. I just wish I had known what taking 2 cat scans every 2 or 3 months was doing to me.

Well I do know better now. Unfortunately it's too late to do anything about it.
I had a Heart Cath back in May and they had to abort placing stents because they couldn't see well enough using the alternative contrast. A week later I had open heart surgery to repair my plumbing... Maybe it will last long enough to get me by, but at 77 years it probably won't be needed too long...
