Blood pressure issues while on prednisone?
I have been on blood pressure meds prior to PMR. While on prednisone I have been having uncontrolled blood pressure numbers. Very frustrating….
Anyone else experiencing this?

2 ReactionsI’ve been on blood pressure meds for three years although my blood pressure wasn’t terrible, more of a precaution. Weirdly I’ve been taking Pred for three weeks now for PMR and my blood pressure is 120-80 or thereabouts every time I check. I’ve cut out alcohol, carbs , drinking beetroot juice and eating flax seeds and kefir so I don’t know if that’s helped. I hope it stays ok over the next few months because if not you really start to wonder if PMR is better than taking steroids !
@martyn
I have recently been reading about flaxseed - whole vs ground in regard to lowering cholesterol. I'm looking for ground flaxseed to add to morning oatmeal. Helping to lower blood pressure will be a bonus.
I've had hypertension for many years.

1 ReactionThe good news is I’m not the only one with these symptoms. I thought I had the flu. A few days later my body was in such pain I couldn’t hardly function. After going on prednisone almost immediately I was better. But ran out of the prednisone and was in worse condition. Finally got a refill and immediately was better. But next thing my heart rate went high for several days like 175, 185, then 195 and I couldn’t get it to come down with breathing ended up in the emergency room and icu for a week. Now have a pacemaker after an ablation. The PMS is sort of under control but still cannot function normally. My legs feel like I’ve tied 100 pounds weights to them. And I walk like I’m 100 yrs old. Prior to this I sometimes would play golf twice a day. I just want my life back. Prior to all of this I was on no medication of any kind. So this has been quite an adjustment and the rheumatologist want to add more medication, but I worry about how each of these medications effect the others.
@jcgolf I am just wondering why you were given an ablation and pacemaker if the heart problems were caused by reaction to prednisone. I experienced my problems after going into withdrawal/secondary adrenal insufficiency while on an anti-hypertensive prescribed for white coat anxiety, and once I was able to titrate down and get off of it, the heart racing stopped. Thankfully I was able to avoid the ER . I am trying to get completely stabilized with the SAI before starting back again.
