Is anyone else suffering from excessive phlegm? I feel like im drownin
I have been suffering daily, for months, with uncontrolled coughing and I feel like I'm drowning. Currently on oxygen 24/7 set at 3. I take trelegy and occasionally use my rescue inhaler. I also take mucus relief 400 mg, 3 tablets twice a day. The Pulmonogist has started me on Roflumilast, at first 500 mcg every day. Because of stomach problems now 250 mcg every other day.

Well, yes. Mostly when I get an infection or virus. But allergies can trigger COPD flare up too for me. I live in the middle of a farming community and there are always triggers. I love rain when it comes because those are my easiest breathing days. Even when the air quality is good there is usually something in it that makes it hard. I have weight to lose and I’m hoping I have fewer flare ups when I get to my goal weight (has nothing to do with size just health). While I did smoke off and on, I have had environmental factors and chronic bronchitis since I was a kid. I’m more uncomfortable now that I’m older but this has always been my life. I just didn’t know why. The constant drowning is pretty spot on.

2 ReactionsThe phlegm for me , is connected to my diet . If I consume oily items, pasta, dairy products. There are more things . I get phlegm in the mornings . Especially. Heavy if I consumed these things late on the day before . I keep a close eye on what I eat . If I am going to have a slice of pizza or some pasta, I make sure I eat it at noon or 1 pm . The body can burn it off unless you sleep all afternoon. I have done that . I keep all my food intake before 5 pm every day . I make sure it is clean. I mean no processed foods . A piece of boneless skinless chicken or salmon . I usually have a cooked or raw green vegetable with it .
I do take Guaifenisin - I use the 1200 time release tablets . I take one every 12 hours . My problems with phlegm are 90% connected to diet . It is something one could consider . Best to all of you . ♥️ Crystalena

1 Reaction@crystalena Try Mullein leaf; it helps bring up phlegm. I use the liquid and put the drops under my tongue. It comes in capsules, gummies, tea, and liquid. Look on Amazon for the 10 best brands.
I use mullein tea .
Suffered from mucus for years it's miserable an at times quite scary when it plugs your throat and can't get it out. Hours every day of my life are spent coughing up mucus. Dr. have not been much help they usually order antibiotics and prednisone. Trilogy is used daily and a couple other things. Mucus pretty much controls my life.

2 ReactionsI have emphysema . It causes a lot of phlegm . But a lot of phlegm is caused by diet . Food can affect your phlegm production . It can , from your stomach and the digestive acids you produce after some foods, send physical “fogs” and signals to your throat . It can be hard to tell which may have the most effect. Possibly a dietitian could help . Just my thoughts , Crystalena
@rmdmichigan I use the tea like I said. But I find it difficult now to strain the hairlike fibers. The bags are even a bit dusty in the package . Do drips work well ? Crystalena
Nebulizer with levalbuterol followed by breathing exercises with spirometer usually does it for me. Also Mucinex 12 hour pills if it's real bad.
@crystalena I can just feel the reaction within 1/2 of consuming almost any (as you call it) "unclean" food, meaning, even simple things, like chili at a restaurant, deli chicken, too much of anything, because then (I think the cause is) my sodium adds up. And you know those flavor enhancers in restaurant food are a killer. It's like I'm allergic to salt. I slip up because maybe I want to go to a wedding, or I want to meet my sisters, or go to my son's house, but the result is a ton of mucus and trying to grab stints of sleep in my recliner while the sputum keeps moving up. I'm allergic to wheat, ice cream, but can tolerate cheese, but it depends on what else I'm having. It's beyond frustrating.
@crystalena I have the most wonderful fine mesh tea strainer that has an open top that rests on the tea cup. It really keeps those fibers in the strainer.
