New migraine regimen: Botox, SAVI neuromodulation, Zavzpret

Posted by briarrose @briarrose, 2 days ago

As I continue to struggle with migraines 7 years after my concussion, I still can not find a regimen that effectively works to treat migraines or a preventative. What complicates manners is I can not take any triptans at all due to heart disease so I am tied to the CGRPSs. I have tried just about everything...I think.
This will be my latest go-to and want to ask fellow sufferers for their input on these treatments:
Preventative: Botox (1st time trying it) and SAVI neuromodulating device.
Acute attacks: Zavzpret nasal spray and SAVI device.
I am dealing with a double whammy. Oral breast cancer medication has a side effects of headaches. And this medication I must be on for at least 5 years. My migraines often go into those brain electric shocks that if lasting more than minutes would probably be a 911 call. They are that painful.
I am nervous about spraying something in my nose. And know that a bitter taste in my mouth is almost a given side effect that can last for a couple of hours. The CGRPs aren't really effective with me (just stopped Ubrevly) but I have no other choice. Plus I am on a laundry list of medications daily (multiple health issues) and don't want to add more pills to my list of about 25 daily...thus the choice of nasal spray. I am 71 years young.

I thought the Zavzpret spray was also a CGRP...like Ubrevly and Nurtec. I have chronic vestibular migraines since surgery for a broken arm. My headache doctor (Mayo trained) has me on Nurtec every other day, botox every 12 weeks, supplements (magnesium, COQ10, Riboflavin) and for rescue naratriptan. People with vestibular migraine have a big issue with medication sensitivity, so it was a lot of trial and error to see what I could tolerate. Good luck.

Yes, Zavzpret spray is a CGRP...but it's one I haven't tried yet. Botox I haven't tried it so these 2 medications are a go for me. Hopefully effective.
Vestibular migraines are terrible! I feel for you!
Nurtec didn't work for me. I was on magnesium/riboflavin for years and they did really nothing for my migraines.
I can not take the triptans like you b/c of heart disease.
I more than understand medication sensitivity, I have it also. And, yes, it's lot of trial and error to find the perfect, effective fit for migraines.
Good luck to you also!

@laplume
What kind of magnesium? There are several.

It was so long ago... either magnesium oxide or glycinate 400 mg. daily. Was on it for years and stopped as I found it didn't help me.
