How to deal with aging anxiety?

The last few years have been hard with multiple surgeries, now recovered, but ongoing pain. The loss of friends recently as they passed and the worrying about how the road feels like it’s getting so much shorter. constantly worrying about the process of dying. trying to stay grateful for today but sometimes the anxiety feels overwhelming especially as I see our country chance for worse and worry about the world for my grandchildren.

Dear JW-
My wife was suffering multiple illnesses, similar to you. It had reached a point that she only left the house for doctors' appointments, and then with difficulty.
Our daughter left her little Havanese dog with us for a month, and it was more effective than any of the many medications for pain and mood. The pain was still there, but she had a reason to get up. Before long we had adopted a rescue Havanese at a price we could afford.
My wife has had successful surgeries for the worst conditions and she and Hava are constantly together.
My hound Hazel is similar mood tonic for me.

Dear Ed,
I have had to accept that I will have chronic pain and there won’t be a perfect fix. But finding a little dog that always lifts my spirits has been a life saver. Glad your wife also found a little dog that helps her through the day🐶

@dederickve oh my gosh. I was suffering so much with joint pain, PMR, pinched nerves in my spine, and then breast cancer. I truly had given up thinking I’d ever get back to enjoying life.
Then I adopted a four year old dachshund and there’s light in my life again. She’s perfect and helped me get outside and find my sense of humor. She loves to play, get off the couch, and provides something I can do with my husband. She’s literally a life saver.
If you’re a dog or cat person and without a pet right now consider adopting a mature furry friend.

@jwcarroll54 So glad you have that little dog ! God must have known how much we would need pets. They are precious to have, love, and oh, how much love they give us . I often say, they are better than people.

All of you Kind People come to the same conclusion! Animals and their Spirits are Life Savers!
I live with my two dogs in complete happiness! They Greet me when I come home! They eat Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner with me! If I have had something upsets me they are there to do a group hug!
There should be a "Senior Adopt an Animal for Us!" I don't know if I could have made it the last four years without them! I endured some life changing medical issues that they are companions that gave me unconditional Love everyday!
We are so lucky to have them!

@fhardaway1 my goal is to get thru midterms as not sure about 2028 with health; however, I want to see these people and their reign of terror taken out of office.
