Surgery advice for enlarged prostate (BPH)

@tdgillett surgery, being laparoscopic, was an outpatient procedure. Hubby went home same night.
BTW, hubby is 73 when he had his surgery this past March.

It involves removing only the inner, blocking tissue of the prostate while leaving the outer capsule intact, and is distinct from a radical prostatectomy performed for cancer. Less invasive than HOLEP which is more like a TURP and physically removes chunks of prostate lining; involves a longer recovery and longer catheter time.
Your pursuit of a remedy is really determined by how much discomfort or inconvenience you have. In my case, I couldn’t urinate or did only partially and was going to the bathroom every half hour…

No pain, leakage, urgency…peed like a teenager.

I am a 66-year-old BPH patient in metro Houston, Texas. I have an elevated PSA number of 7.7 - 7.9, 14.1 % free PSA, 47.1 gram prostate. I received a prognosis/recommendation from my current urologist that differs from the advice I received when I resided in California (having left there in April 2025). I was strongly encouraged in California to undergo a TURP. My Texas urologist, however, feels that as long as my tadalafil medication manages my ease and comfort urinating, and my PSA level is stable, then the status quo is acceptable for the foreseeable future. My concern is the impact on sexual functioning and desire. What has your experience been, if I may ask.

I had the green light laser surgery performed on my enlarged prostate 2 years ago without any complication. My PSA level has been holding at 0.33
