Anyone have muscle pain due to statin (Praluent)?

Posted by cindymattern @cindymattern, Dec 24, 2024

I took Praluent a few years ago and had really no issues. However since my knee replacement I started it again due to high cholesterol at 270. After taking a few months of shots my muscle pain got so much worse worse, top of my foot and toes, hips and buttocks, lower back and even the top of my knee hurts. I am stopping it but was reading it can take 100 days to get out of your system and I'm only about 4 weeks out. Anyone else have these issues? I have tried many statins so I was put back on this and now it's giving me issues. thanks for any input. I just want to get back to my normal for me.

I have taken statins and had to stop due to the muscle pain. I then took Praluent and the same happened but I don't think leg pain is listed as a side effect. Wondering if this has occurred with anyone else.

@lgreenrn Like you I turned to Praluent to avoid leg cramps and it worked. It is amazing how effective it is lowering my cholesterol. I've taken it for several years, with no side effects.

I have experienced the same Symptoms. I am extremely disappointed that I cannot tolerate it. I have had pain in my left leg for a month. The pain was excruciating for 3 weeks, I was on crutches. I injected into my left thigh, I often wonder if I had injected it into my abdomen whether I would not have experienced the problem.

My cardiologist had me try several statins, zetia, and gemfibrozil. All caused muscle cramps. I have been taking Repatha (once every two weeks) for three and a half years. Muscle cramps are almost nil. I also take magnesium citrate and glycinate. I started magnesium (and calcium) perhaps 20 years ago when I had to give up dairy products.

Hi
I tried repatha I had issues severe joint pain went back on statins couldn't tolerate them started praluent after my second shot I woke up covered in like blood spots all over my legs and forearms had to go to the ER . I was having an immune reaction to the drug had to be taken off. Since then I am back on crestor 5 mg every other day I also take 100 mg of CoQ10 which alleviates muscle pain as I was advised by my pharmacist statins deplete CoQ10 since starting Coq10 I'm having zero issues with my statin. I hope you find something you can tolerate

I was on Lipitor and had lower leg pain. My internist took me off it for a bit and my cardiologist ended up prescribing nexlizet, I just started it so I can't tell yet. I did have to appeal a denial of coverage by my carrier.

Doc just put me on a Statin holiday and switched me from Verapamil to Metapropol. I've been on Crestor 5 mg for roughly 25 years after having muscle pain from another Statin (don't remember the name). I've also taken CoQ 10 or ubiquinol all that time. I had a knee replacement in late April followed by a gastric bleeds from NSAIDS in May. In late June I began experiencing widespread pain (level 4-5) and cold intolerance at night (needing mittens, a thick long-sleeve shirt and pants, and a hoodie sweatshirt in a 79 degree room), as well as fatigue. All blood work normal so far including thyroid tests, CRP, Creatine, Metapanel, sediment rate, Ferritin (Iron saturation was 17%, but doctor said not low enough to cause these symptoms). I hope the Statin Holiday solves the problem.
