Experiences with Quetiapine (Seroquel) for sleeping?

Posted by silmil93 @silmil93, Jan 23 6:36pm

Ho everyone,
I have been suffering from insomnia for many years. Clonazepam used to help me sleep, but now even though I take 3mg before bedtime I struggle to stay asleep for more than 3 hours and when I wake up I keep tossing and turning. My doctor prescribed zolpidem 10mg but it doesn't help either unfortunately. I'm also on Venlafaxine XL 150 mg and now the doctor suggested that I take 25/50 mg of Quetiapine before bed time to help with sleep and I should also get some positive effects on my depression as well.
Has anyone ever tried Quetiapine at these doses? If so, what was your experience? I would really appreciate hearing from those who tried it, it would mean a lot to me. I am always a bit scared to try new medications so hearing others' experience can help.
Thank you

@silmil93 I take 25 mg Quetipine for sleep to offset side effect of Methadone 5mg for my restless legs. Methadone has a known side effect of sleep disturbance. ( but not as bad as restless legs!) I have a bit of brain fog in the morning that wears off in the afternoon. I am not sure which is causing the brain fog. Likely both. It does help me sleep. I have asked for a liquid version so I can titrate to find the lowest dose that works

@jebk that makes sense I'm going to try just half a pill tonight so if you found a whole pill didn't make you like a zombie the next day I'll try half a pill with the brain injury I'm more sensitive to these drugs

@maryruth7 I cut them in half and it still knocks me out the next day. What time do you take it I take my half about 8:00 at night and the next day I still feel it

That's initeresting. I go to bed at 10 so I'll try it then. Does it make you groggy?

Two psychiatrists have not wanted me to take Seroquel because it raises my cholesterol and it causes word-finding and other speech problems. My new psychiatrist won’t prescribe it. He says as we get older, the memory won’t come back like it used to when I gradually tapered off after an episode. Falls can be another side effect. I’m at the Mayo Clinic looking for other options for sleep and bipolar 2.

I use Seroquel, but I use a 25 MG size pill. I still wake up at 12 midnight then at 2 PM in the morning and finally at 4 PM and then I finally get up. Sometimes I’m groggy by the time I feel good. I am 72 year-old male.

I am 75. And on a large dose but still wake up through the night. And in the morning I feel nauseous around 5.

I was on quetiapine for sleep due to side effects of methadone for restless legs but did not help much and had alot of brain fog for half the next day and horrible anxiety. My provider switched to doxepin and I fell asleep easily and no anxiety and less brain fog the first night of taking. I'll keep you posted.
