Hi, I’m also interested in connecting with people who currently use a Hood stoma stent. I’d really like to hear about your experience with it—what you like about it, any challenges you’ve had, and what you wish could be improved. If you’re comfortable sharing your experience, I’d appreciate connecting. Thank you!

Not well versed on this platform. Do you currently wear a Hood stent? Size? How often do you replace stent? How long have you worn one?

@trach neither am I. I do currently wear one. I’ve been a trach patient for the last 46 years. Been wearing a stent for about 12 years. I replace them every 3 months on my own.

What requires you to wear one. I have worn one for over 33 years. I can get them to last several years before replacing them. I live in Indiana where the heat coupled with the high humdity is a real challenge to breath. Hoping to move out west where climate is much drier.

@trach Hello. I have had a trach for the last six years. I did try the Stoma Stent Plug---clear plastic plug (resembles a kids swimming pool plug) without the tube elongation. The mucus was still there and plenty of it. It was very uncomfortable to wear, with mucus seemingly stuck behind the stent. Yes, I suctioned it out, but it was more constant since the tube was gone which held some of the biological material. Also, putting it on was difficult and extremely painful. After spending over $100 to purchase one, I couldn't wait to put my trach tube back in. It was like putting a favorite hat back on in the cold! Maybe we are not talking about the same thing, or maybe I did something wrong. This was approximately four years ago.

What size and style was the Hood Stoma stent? Sorry to hear about your failed experience. I have worn CS11-27 for over 33 years. I recall it took approximately a month to get acclimated to it. True they are not cheap but I would not do without it.

@trach I had warts growing into my windpipe that were cutting off my breathing, and I also have laryngeal stenosis. I’ve had to wear one because of the airway issues. I can definitely understand how heat and humidity can make breathing even more challenging. I hope you’re able to move somewhere with a climate that makes breathing easier.

@thomason I’m sorry you had such a difficult experience with it. I actually love my stoma stent and have had a very different experience. I really enjoy not having to wear a string around my neck, and for me, it’s been much more comfortable and convenient.
