Any tips for celebrating 50th birthday for son with inoperable glio 4?
I've posted before. Our son has grade 4 inoperable glioblastoma. He will turn 50 mid september. Finishes radiation 9/4. Rather than a party we are planning a nice dinner at his favorite restaurant with immediate family and two of his closesr friends.
Looking for any suggestions, experiences, etc that we should consider as we try to make it a light evening with humor despite the gravity of his condition. Also welcome gift ideas. These days he doesnt do much, read much or listen to music.
All suggestions, comments welcome.
Thanks

@brosen, such a good question. We need times of celebration and even levity when facing advanced stages of disease. Going out for dinner will place less burden than hosting. I would make sure that guests know that your son may have to leave earlier than he might normally have done in the past. Another good reason to have it in a restaurant where he can leave without stopping the celebration or lingering dinner conversations.
As for gift ideas, what about services to help him around the house like someone to mow the lawn or transportation to appointments?
Thanks so much for responding to my question. All very helpful. Thank you so much.
For gifts to a guy with GBM what about a framed piece of art, or favorite sports team jersey framed?
Or box of favorite food item or candy? Or if he’s religious maybe a framed favorite Bible verse?
My husband with GBM loves food items. My brother just sent us a small box of fav candy. His eyes lit up.
Many blessings to him and all your family. 😊

2 Reactions@rened great ideas! Thanks...and blessings to you as well.
Candy! If he had a favorite candy as a child, look on Google to track some down.
I sent my sibling a really comfy pair of pjs and a Bamboo chemo cap-that looks like any other seaman’s beanie except bamboo has natural antibacterial properties and dries super fast. Bamboo yarn feels just like silk also. I found them on Etsy and Amazon. Lightweight and many colors available.
Anything that makes them physically comfortable-with fall here, a soft comfy shirt from LL Bean, etc , slippers, LL Bean has great sales and a good online outlet , too. I think their T necks are very good. I wear them.
A movie date coffee dates…a weekend away…experiences and physical comfort!

1 ReactionMore wonderful ideas. Thank you so much. We were really in a quandary. We've dealt with difficulty most of our married life. Our oldest son is missing for 24 years and we found him a year ago. My wife is a two-time cancerous survivor, triple heart bypass, and a brittle diabetic. Through it all God has been faithful, And we know He will be in our son's case as well. BUT.... We have never dealt with anything like this and the fact that he Lives eight hours away makes it all the more challenging. But thinking about a gift given the uncertainty of whether this is his last birthday or not is something we've I had to experience. Suggestions from many of you have certainly helped. Again, thank you so much.
