PAXIL DISCONTINUATION SYNDROME

Posted by teacherbuilder55 @teacherbuilder55, 17 hours ago

I am 71 years old and was on Paxil for 34 years latest dose 30mg per day. My doctor, in what turned out to be an act of malpractice put me on a 30 day discontinuation schedule and transitioned me to Wellbutrin as I weaned off. It has been a nightmare. 4 months later, after the shock from too-rapid Paxil discontinuation I have been on and off Wellbutrin, hydroxyzine, and am now on my 3rd week of Buspar, 15mg per day and at the end of this week will have been on Zoloft, 25mg for one week. In addition, I am taking lorazepam to deal with the worst effects of the anxiety on an episodic basis while letting the Buspar deal with anxiety on the more long term basis. Getting off of Paxil is a good idea for many. But it MUST be done in the care of medical/psychiatric assistance for it to be done right. Because I am still healing from this, any input anyone has here I would appreciate hearing. This has been one of the worst periods of my entire life.

I’m very sorry you’re going through such a difficult situation, you are being put through so many medications and that’s never easy or even acceptable from my point of view. I know what it’s like to get off Peroxitine or Paxil, I started six months ago and was also tapered off too soon causing me to go into serotonin withdrawal syndrome, to date I am still having trouble with symptoms. I learned that Paxil is most difficult to stop no matter how long you take them, they stay a very short time in your system so withdrawal onset is fast and furious for some people. I noticed that you didn’t mention why you stopped taking them? If you found them less effective then the doctor could have added something else to help you feel better. As a fellow victim of this drug and a medical professional who doesn’t know how to treat you properly I would recommend either finding another doctor more experienced to help you get control of your body and life again.
