Typical dose of prednisone for PMR

My husband is being treated for PM by his GP, waiting for a rheumatologist appointment in one month. She has him on four 10s for three days, then three 10s for three days, then two 10s for three days etc. He has gone thru three of these courses and as soon as he hits the “two 10s” his hands are really painful again. I’m reading that many of you are on 4 mg etc. is it really 4 or 40?

You could call Rheumatologist office and ask to get on waiting list for cancellations.
When I saw my labs and put into a Brave browser search and all my symptoms it came back with PMR. I had an appt about 1 month later with Rheumatologist.
When I called and told them my lab results and that it might be PMR, they called me the next day and got me in day after that.
It is PMR and she even had an Ultrasound done the very next day of my shoulder and to check my head for GCA (Giant Cell Arterits), which is even more serious. No GCA but positive PMR.
It's worth trying. It doesn't sound good the way the current Dr is dosing and tapering so quickly. I'm still new but have read enough here to know these types of Prednisone changes can cause a lot of pain and suffering. I hope you can get in sooner to see the Rheumatologist. Best call I made.
