Weight Gain on Tymlos
I am new here, so apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere. I started Tymlos on July 14. Since then, I have been gaining weight. I do exercise by running or walking nearly everyday as well as strength training at least two times a week. My diet has not changed. (I do indulge occasionally but not regularly.)Has anyone else experienced weight gain? I'm beyond frustrated.

@gravity3 I don't know if it will. I have been seeing mixed feedback on whether or not it actually works.
@bharris202 It may be but I have gained about 8 lbs. 🙁

1 Reaction@dmedaglio1 I am on my last month of Tymlos. I have had a 10% increase in bmd in my hips. One has gone from osteoporosis to osteopenia. I started gaining weight in my second year on Tymlos. I am not happy about it but I am very pleased with the effect on my hips-and if the weight comes off over the next 6-12 months, all the better. My primary concern is what to do next to protect my gains.

What is your endocrinologist offering as a treatment plan post Tymlos? Have you taken osteoporosis drugs prior to Tymlos?

1 Reaction@fresian1 Tymlos is also working for me. Initially I gained a few pounds. However recently with not feeling well due to stomach issues and stepping up my resistance training I lost quite a few pounds from not being able to eat as much but my stomach is still thick. I have switched to mostly injecting in the outer part of the thigh.
@fresian1 I also don't know what to do next as I am fearful of Reclast due to my osteoarthritis and already having auto immune thyroid and I wonder go on Prolia as I can never transition to bio phosphates because of my stomach issues
@bharris202
Hahaha, yes, I’m telling myself all my weight gain is pure muscle!
Seriously, I have gained weight while on Tymlos and I have steadily increased the weight I’m using in strength training so at least SOME of it is muscle.
I also changed my eating habits to include more foods with calcium and that had an effect, too.

1 Reaction@lightlifts I can’t do bisphosphonates either. I have bone loss in my jaw already, enough that one implant fell out. But I am looking. There is a promising ultrasound treatment that hopefully will be approved fairly soon. Biosimilar hormones are protective but doctors don’t want to prescribe them if you are over 10 years from menopause. I have been reading about a mineral supplement called shilajit that is supposed to be effective-brand is Optimum. I am always a little skeptical; I want to look at the studies they cite. If I could afford it, I would go to Europe for a modified MRI treatment that apparently works for a year with no side effects.

2 Reactions@gravity3 Tymlos is the first drug I have taken. The endocrinologist who prescribed it recommended reclast as a follow-up but I am not doing that. Once you start on those drugs you can’t stop without a rebound effect. I’m looking at other options.
