Just diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC): Treatment options?

I was just diagnosed yesterday with RCC. I'm devastated. My head is spinning. I'm waiting for my Dr to give me referrals to kidney RCC specialist so I can find out what my options are.
I've been looking at surgery to remove my whole kidney, surgery to remove just the tumor , cold ablation and heat ablation, laparoscopic surgery etc .

My doctor advised the renal cell is small. I contacted Interventional Radiology Oncologist in Miami where I live. After reviewing my records they scheduled me for a cryo procedure where they freeze the area with a minimally invasive operation. They will not have to go through the abdomen. Recovery time is supposed to be
about 2 days. And then during the year 3 followup CT Scans or MRI. Doctor says success rate is 99%
I hope it works because I've had two prior hernia surgery and did not want to go in the front.

I had cryoablation surgery done in June for a 1.7 cm tumor in my left kidney. It was determined to be ccrcc which is clear cell renal carcinoma - the most common kidney cancer. Recovery went well. I had to be careful about abrupt movement and the like. Also have to monitor incision on the back to prevent infection. My first appointment with new surgeon/oncologist is next month to determine next steps like when is the next scan. Wishing you all the best 😺

I can appreciate what you are going through. Having had kidney disease for years, I too was devastated when told I had kidney cancer, which was discovered incidentally to another problem. My only comment would be to see an appropriate Oncologist, and one at a teaching facility if possible, and hear what you are told with respect to options. My understanding is that kidney cancers are slow growing, so as scared as you may be, you need time to make an informed decision. I'm now 84, and still have the bad kidney, and was diagnosed a year and a half ago. Please, take your time, and have aa trusted person with you when you see the oncologist. Make a list of your questions so that you are an informed patient. I wish you good luck, a great Oncologist, and peace.

Hello happy to hear you are doing well despite the obvious. My mother was diagnosed a year ago, I brought her up to live with me. Things are just being put in place, she has a referral to visit with the cancer doctor. She is 83 with other major problems. I keep telling myself to stay strong but it's really hard. I can't wait for the doctors to provide her with her medical needs, she is in so much pain.

hope all goes well, I really think with my mother age and her current health conditions will prevent her from having the surgery. She has been experiencing lots of pain. I'm not sure what will be the next step.

I'm so sorry you're going through this because it's really hard and sad. The cryoablation procedure requires general anesthesia so it may be too risky. I've had trouble sleeping...been up all night missing my Mom. Sending healing and beautiful thoughts your way.
