Choose not to do Chemo

hi @cynthia19591965 how was your appointment? did you find out your diagnosis and biomarker information? even with only 1 lymph node affected, your lung cancer is more likely to metastasize. that is because it could have entered the lymph system via that affected node and traveled to other parts of your body. what kind of treatment options did your oncologist suggest?

I had a rt lower lobectomy and the results after the surgery were great, no cancer. Because my mutation is very aggressive, my thoracic surgeon was hoping I could get some extra treatment after that surgery. The tumor was 3.3 cm's and a 4cm tumor would automatically have been advised extra treatment. He sent me to an oncologist in hopes the oncologist would understand how aggressive this HER2 was. A big fat "NO" came from that oncologist. He was going to follow the standard procedure. In 5 mos after that surgery, on my very first "check-up" I have metastasis in both lungs, 4 pulmonary nodules, my spleen and my liver. I soooo wished I could have had some extra treatment right after my surgery. I would seriously consider extra treatment if it's being advised. Don't be afraid to ask what your options are and what those treatments could provide for you.

I do have hope as I have been accepted into a clinical trial with a treatment that shows lots of hope for my mutation.

When it comes to a cancer diagnosis, I would advocate strongly towards being more on the side of caution. Especially if there the situation involves metastasis. Be more proactive and aggressive on treatments. Cancer comes back and if the team recommends surgery, chemotherapy or radiation, I would feel more at ease that I'm doing what I can to minimize recurrence. Good luck . Sometimes it is a challenge to come up with what is the best course of action.

@mamajite I did get the bio marker results back, the doctor didn’t explain them to me .. just said he suggested highly that I do Carboplatin and Pemetrexed for 4 rounds and then do Keytruda.
Wish I knew how to read the bio markers..
