Alternate osteoporosis medications
Has anyone used an alternate treatment for osteoporosis besides the injections like prolia, which has been discontinued?
I would like to use a more natural approach to treating my bone loss

Once annually, I get Reclast infusions. My doc also prescribed D3-MK2. It seems to help me. Testosterone and estrogen injected pellets have helped. I don’t have to use a cane to walk anymore.

Thanks for your reply. I am afraid of the meds because of the side effects. I already have heart problems and don't want to add to them. You did the 12-month and then the 6-month with no side effects at all? I saw a q in front of the 2 and figured you meant 1.
@recieve What about Forteo instead of Evenity? The daily injections scare off some people, but they are quite doable and your pharmacist can help you with your first injection to ease your mind. It is more like an epi pin and actually very simple. I take mine at night.

2 ReactionsI would suggest a good endocrinologist. With your current conditions, blood work needs to be done in order to monitor things like serum calcium levels, 24 hr urine, CTX score, kidney function, etc.

2 ReactionsSo many medications have unwanted side effects, I understand why you are apprehensive. Maybe you could ask for the mildest medication to treat your osteoporosis. Also, referral to a PT for seated exercises if you have breathing issues and referral to a dietician for the best food sources to maintain your current bone density levels. Try going to a health food stores to see if they carry a supplement that is effective but is research based. Just clear it with your MD first. Best to you.
@gravity3
It just goes by the generic form now in Canada anyway I'm going to be starting it because I fractured on reclast
@sue417
Is it jubbonti the generic of Prolia? Have you already taken an anabolic (bone builder) like tymlos, forteo or evenity? I don't know what the latest sequenci g guidelines in Canada are but here in the states women are starting to ask for an anabolic first since starting with a bisphosphonate can dampen the effects of an anabolic. The trouble here is the insurance companies are making decisions that doctors should be making....the bottom line $$. Do you mind me asking what your latest dexa scores is?
@gravity3
Hi yes it's jubonti. In Canada it's covered I was on reclast for 4 years on IV once a year but because I had radiation to my chest and I already had osteoporosis he feels that's why I fractured again . I tried forteo last year. I had really bad joint pain from it so I couldn't handle staying on it , evenity I cannot take because I had a TIA and Tymlos is so far not covered in Canada so it's very frustrating because I would have liked to have tried that. I do not know my t score I asked my endocrinologist this week when I was there but he didn't tell me. We don't get information like you do in the States from your doctors I'm going to try to see if I can get a copy of my report from the clinic I had my bone density at in July
