HRT?

Posted by kay15 @kay15, Aug 20 7:18am

Hello,

I recently been reading about HRT and how it can help with osteoporosis. I wanted to check if anyone had any success with it after treatment? I did 12 months of Evenity and 1 infusion of Reclast but only gained 10% from my last dexa. I do not want another round or Reclast so I'm wondering if HRT with some lifting might put me in the -1s instead of -2s.
Thanks :]

@oknowwhatpixie I’d like to do this, but docs don’t recommend due to age….do you take some balancing progesterone ?

I also use micronized progesterone topically as well.

Here is paper that helped me in part of my decision making process.

@bswpb the 10% gain was in my hips my "femoral joint". t
The reason we went with Evenity is those joints were the worst numbers. It's really such a pain of having to balance "I should work out to get stronger" and "I should rest because my joints could snap"

@kay15 Did that 10% gain take you to osteopenia? Either way, starting slow and light strength training could be beneficial. Our bodies were meant to move. Maybe you could go to PT and have them show you what is safe and what isn’t. It might also relieve anxiety.

You may want to introduce them to newer views of age and hrt/bhrt

Don't forget the importance of testosterone.

@gravity3 thanks, very interesting…docs afraid of HRT and BHRT in patients 80 and over….can these treatments upset body systems increasingly vulnerable to issues of aging ? Adding another hormone is no small matter…still researching, don’t want toxic bone meds that will definitely throw my healthy balance out of whack….

Gosh I am not sure . Did Dr. Susan Hardwick-Smith say anything about that in her YouTube videos?
I started at 77 an I am now 78. I chose to have testosterone added because I wanted my libido back and I wanted to see if it would have benefit for my muscles.
I'm not sure what you mean by "toxic drugs".
I have used alendronate, forteo, evenity and now Prolia. Never any noticeable side effects.

@gravity3 hi, toxic meds means ‘’toxic to me’’, due to other health issues… I wish for OP meds that I can handle…
