Aquablation: Post-surgery expectations
After decades of pills to (partially) manage BPH, I am scheduled for aquablation at Mayo JAX in mid-Feb. Has anyone had that procedure done? What was post-surgery like? What were your experiences regarding regular vs. retrograde ejaculation?
My expectations are high. My general health is good+ (71 yo), my prostate is enlarged but not massive, my PSA's suggest no cancer concerns. The surgeon expects a low-risk procedure (no incisions I believe) and a quick recovery (unless something unexpected pops up). I appreciate it's impossible to predict surgical outcomes with certainty - I would like to hear of others' experiences to help set my expectations.

@alfonse Yep, I am 9 weeks tomorrow, post Holep. An UNEVENTFUL, DRAMA-FREE recovery so far. I told the urologist last week when I saw him at my follow up appointment - you are a genius!

1 ReactionDay 8-9 Feeling pretty good. A little weak in the afternoon. Noticed a little tissue pass and some blood yesterday. Also a little blood this morning. Last day for any post surgery meds. Now doc wants me to stay on Tamsulosin and Finasteride until next appointment {6 weeks}

2 ReactionsDay 10. Took the last after procedure pill yesterday. Feeling more energy. Not sure if the meds had anything to do with that. I had a UTI before the procedure and the doc loaded me up with meds before and after. I did notice upon siting on the toilet an urge to pee but it is a little blood. Not sure what that is. Oh well its time to stop boring you all with my daily doings. I will get back on here if I have any changes. So far so good! Good luck to all!
@psblin99
Not boring, it’s good to share experiences so others know how it goes and what might be normal or not. While everyone’s recovery is different it’s still good to know.
One update. Urine has been pink for about 48 hours. Communicated with the doctor. He said not unusual for a little bleeding. Scabs form and sometimes are torn off. Has to re heal. As long as no clotting or not bright red it is normal.
im almost 4 months in. i went to see dr as i have been have a slow down in my flow. lots of starts and stops. hard to start peeing. feeling like im almost back to before i started. he told me he thinks it could be my pelvic floor and need to do exercises. has anyone here been told similar and if so did exercises help

Still some blood but I am noticing it only when I first start to pee. I did a test and started then stopped. Flushed the toilet and finished. Pretty clear. Not sure what that is. Also if i sit on the toilet to move my bowels without pushing a very small amount of liquid comes out and it is pretty red. I don't feel Like I am peeing. It seems to come out by itself.
@albiet I'm about 3 months out age 75. NO complaints. I think the recovery is still a process at this point with ongoing pelvic floor recovery. I had ramped up Kegel exercises which do help but I started to do too many & noticed a short term setback in terms of everything you are describing but it passed fairly quickly. I have returned to cycling and if I load up too much in a week like I have recently I've noticed the same mild setback. Going to try a 3D printed saddle for potentially less stress on the perineum. Sexual activities continue to improve over the past month. Good luck guys. It was worth the price of admission for me for sure and patience is still key for any mild setbacks.
