New ground glass airspace opacity found

Hi @gailmarienewton, Just when you want a break from all-things-cancer, now you need to deal with this?! I'm sure it's concerning and frustrating. We are all hoping that the nodules and ground glass are something other than cancer. Our lungs do react to foreign invaders, infection, fungus, etc.
I have lung cancer (2020, stage IV) and picked up a lobular breast cancer diagnosis in 2024. I had a single mastectomy and recovered well. I'm taking hormone blockers, which is not easy, but I'm thankful that the breast cancer was identified early.
Juggling treatment for multiple cancers creates a unique case for our doctors to figure out. Do you have one general oncologist that treats both cancers, or multiple?

I have a hematologist /oncologist for leukemia, a radiation /oncologist for radiation, a pulmonary/ oncologist for lungs, and a skin doctor. They do all talk to each other which I am grateful.

Oh....and a breast surgeon that talks to my hematologist/oncologist. She is the only one that I do not have faith in.

I have had 38 radiation treatments and am now on astrozole. I also get Gammagard as my IGg and white blood cells are so low (2.1). I was wondering if anyone just radiated nodules in the lung after have large invasive lobular carcinomas in the breast (now both breasts removed)...the right breast had 8.9 cm. ,6 cm., and 6.2 cm tumors. The left breast had smaller tumors...2.2 mm. 6mm. and 2mm. Just wondering???? I get a CT again on Sept. 23rd on my lungs.

Thank you. I have always lived a healthy lifestyle—I never smoke, I eat healthy foods, and walking is my exercise. Finding out about this disease almost two years ago was a huge shock.

The last couple days, I decided to email my surgeon to ask if he could perform the biopsy so I can get early treatment without waiting for 3 months. I have not heard back from him yet, and he might not reply.

I didn't message him on MyChart because the APRN usually replies without consulting the doctor. Facing this dreadful disease, I am trying my best to stay calm.

@hch559 depending on the size and location of the nodule - biopsy isn't always possible, so that might be a factor. do you have an oncologist you could speak with about your treatment plan? I would say Tagrisso (osimertinib) is worth considering.

Hi Helen,
Yes, finding out you have cancer is a huge shock. Having lived and continuing to live a healthy lifestyle is a huge plus for you as you fight this disease. Good for you Helen !
Great, I’m glad you reached out to your surgeon. I do hope you get a reply from him/her soon. It’s hard enough coping without having the extra stress of waiting to hear back.
Good for you for trying your best to stay calm, it’s not always easy with all you are going through but certainly worth the effort I feel to reduce stress anywhere we can.

@gailmarienewton, After my breast surgery (single mastectomy), we talked about radiation briefly but decided against it. I didn't want to risk any impact on my lungs, knowing that I'll have issues with lung cancer in the future. I'm taking my chances with a breast cancer recurrence, but I am taking Tamoxifen to lower my risk. These are never easy decisions. My next set of scans are on the same day as yours.

I was originally diagnosed with intrapulmonary metastis, 2 nodules same lobe. It since has been revised to multifocal lung cancer with each nodule a separate primary. I had a lobectomy 2/24. This past June a new nodule with suspicious features was found in same lung, other lobe.
In 6/29 I had a new procedure called the Aliya. They perform a bronchoscopy. If it's not malignant that's it. But if it is they do a pulsed electrical field ablation which preserves lung function and all adjacent structures. It takes 3 months to see if it worked so I dont know yet. My scan is scheduled for 10/8. But my dr is very optimistic that it worked and destroyed the nodule.
I have 3 nodules in my other lung that are under surveillance. If necessary I would not hesitate to have the Aliya again.
