Possible 2 different cancers in lungs?
On 5/1/25 I had an ION CT Scan and then a Pet Scan of my lungs. On the CT Scan it showed a 6mm node that was a 5mm node 1 month ago and it also showed the 1 cm node that was new 1 month ago and unchanged now. The PET Scan showed two and possibly 3 areas that lit up. The first area was the 1cm node in my right upper lobe and the 2nd was a new 5mm node in my left upper lobe. There was one other area that my doctor showed me that looked like a cloud and in the center there was something that lit up dimly. My question is about something my Pulmonologist said. he said " We are going to do a robotic CT guided biopsy of the node in my right lobe and the one in my left lobe. He said he hoped they were the same cancer and they caught it early. The best case scenario is that both nodes are the same type of cancer, but they developed separately in each lobe and if they are different cancers, that would be Bad." I asked him to elaborate on "Bad," but he didn't. Is it common to have two different types of cancers in your lungs? Also, what makes that a worse case scenario? Thank you for any responses to my query.

@pattythompson, just checking in to see how you are doing. Did your team suggest a referral with a palliative care physician and team? How are you doing?

2 Reactions@pattythompson in your appointment, did they give you a diagnosis? when I had my bronchoscopy they told me in the recovery room that I had lung cancer. (which wasn't great since I also had a collapsed lung at the time, but they usually do a quick pathology on the tissue they remove to check if it's cancer.) and then if it is cancer, they send it off to a special lab to check for the tumor DNA mutations. those results usually take 2-3 weeks to get back. do you know what chemotherapy they're suggesting for you?

1 ReactionI have my first appointment tomorrow.. it's just a consult I guess because they don't have my biopsy, so I'm at a loss on what's going on.❤️

2 Reactions@pattythompson do you have someone to go with you? I try to write down my questions ahead of time, too. it can feel overwhelming in the moment and it's easy to forget things you wanted to ask the doctor.
Thanks for advice@mamajite ... My husband goes with me but he's also scared and overwhelmed ❤️

1 Reaction@pattythompson hope everything goes as well as possible today 🙏🏻❤️
My husband has bee diagnosed with two different cancers. Same EGFR gene, but different mutations. Apparently cancer is contained only to the lungs?? His first mutation he took Tagrisso for 3 years. This second mutation he has had nothing for other than monitoring with CT Scans every 4 months. He has had radiation for others not biopsied and scar tissue is now possibly showing wrong diagnosis of what appears to be spots?? Life of course lives with uncertainty but the fact they are following up every 4 months is hopeful insurance that they will deal with the situation sooner than later when it is presented??? If it is early in the diagnosis for you then moving forward is positive! You remain with a positive mind, as a negative state of mind can certainly hamper recoveries. The best of luck to you, they have certainly come a long way with treatments which is uplifting.
