I will be having the Tulsa Procedure for my prostate cancer in 10 days

The biggest challenge I had after my procedure was two urinary track infections (UTI). I suspect the cause may have been wearing the Depends too long after they were damp from leakage. In any event, doctor prescribed medicine fixed the issue.

Question for those who have had the Tulsa Procedure (within past 2 years). Mine is this Wednesday with Dr. Woodrum at Mayo Rochester.
What was your first night experience like after your procedure?
What about the day after the procedure? And the following day?
I know everyone is a little different, just curious as what to possibly expect.

Well don't get too worked up, it is about doing just about nothing. That first day you likely change depends once or twice due to blood is one difference on first versus other days. Be sure to bring petroleum jelly for your tip, or alternative is antibiotic cream in a petroleum jelly type of base, as especially that first day you get used to carrying the bag and how to not pull on catheter, etc. After first day, you may be bored enough to go out and sit with somebody at a Starbucks or something, first day not due to anesthesia recovery and all which some it lingers some it doesn't. Keep in mind front of St Mary's and front of Gonda are blocked (On 8/5 when I was there). I walked from Airbnb to St Mary but entered Francis entrance on side as the front is a mess. I walked back after with my wife those block and a half or whatever it was, that was tougher than walking to for sure. Loose sweatpants a must to cover up and walk out.

I actually felt like I could have driven home! No pain. Didn’t even take a Tylenol. I slept on my back due to the catheter. Woke up next morning and felt so good I took my normal 2 mile walk. Next day had the catheter taken out and have had zero issues since. Never needed depends! Note: I only had 30% of prostate ablated so my Recovery was likely easier.

Catheter tip! I used an ace bandage to secure my cath tube to my thigh. That prevented the tube from moving and tugging on my tip.

The first night was difficult because I sleep on my stomach which makes wearing a catheter challenging. After that night I found a side sleeping position that worked.

The days following the procedure were a piece of cake. The provided leg bag for urine collection worked great. The pre procedure need to rush to a toilet was gone and it felt pretty feeing.

@mikead63, thinking about you as you recover from your procedure. How are you doing?

@colleenyoung Tulsa procedure went very well according to Dr. Woodrum! Upon “waking up”
I had some sharp bladder spasms and I was given medication which, once it kicked in it was much better! First time with a catheter which has caused some initial sharp pain on and off at the tip of my penis. Having my wife with me was very important both pre and post procedure - in so many ways! Hope to fall asleep for the night now that it’s after midnight!!

@mikead63 Good to hear from you. Yeah after Tulsa 3 years ago when I had first catheter that was real hard adjustment having that first experience with a catheter, the spasm meds do work well. I only needed one on that first day. This time too with Dr Woodrum's cryoablation two weeks ago, just needed one bladder spasm pill that first day. But they probably gave you 5 days in case you need it. You might need it. Just learn to untug the catheter, they can wrap it tight and you want it loose and with petroleum jelly at the tip. Sleeping on side or back is tough to get it right, use the night bag as needed as it can dangle way down below bed. Hope you get some sleep. It gets better from here, and getting that catheter out is so welcome when it happens. I had to go 5 days after cryoablation with catheter, was no fun of course.
