What is a time, activity, place, etc., that brought peace/serenity?
SCUBA diving always brought me peace. I think it was because I had to stay present and the beauty of being underwater.

Always the ocean..on,in, next to, seeing, smelling, hearing. And in the Northern California forests. Touching , talking with, listening to the trees.

2 ReactionsYesterday I experienced peace and serenity in an unusual place. We were at a community festival (Czech Days in Protivin Iowa) dancing to one of our favorite polka bands (Barefoot Becky), enjoying the festival food (homemade kolaches or kraut anyone?) and drink, visiting with those around us, and people watching.
In these days of unsettling headlines, and seemingly non-stop bad news, it was pure joy. We watched dancers from 3 to 90+, long time partners and novices, Moms teaching kids, Grandmas carrying babies, young couples smiling (and peeking at the veteran dancer's feet), couples showing off their stuff. Then there were the softball, volleyball and "bags" tourneys, the "cake walk", the raffle, young couples flirting (yes, it still happens!), families making sure elders on walkers or in wheelchairs got to come and enjoy, some folks in traditional dress, others in Sunday best, people in uniforms and scrubs sneaking in a for a few minutes, and kids running everywhere.
The pure joy we saw had me smiling during the whole 3 hour drive home.
If you need a lift on a weekend, find a local festival and wander in. Bring a little $$ and enjoy the food, visit with those around you, try a game or two, and forget your troubles!

7 ReactionsI was maybe 10. We summered at an old time Catskill NY bungalow colony, animal and vegetable farm. Late one warm afternoon, I crept into the bottom of a big haystack, and lay there face up with the sun twinkling through the straw. I "became one" with the hay. Time stood still.
Then the spiders reminded me to get out.

2 ReactionsSitting outside way before dawn. The perfect quiet time with God. If any kind of sound, it is welcome sound of birds.

3 ReactionsFor me peace & serenity is achieved every morning when I walk my dog around 5:00 am and watch the sunrise over the Superstition Mountains. The birds are starting to sing, the hustle of the day hasn't begun yet. It's a reminder of how precious life is. I always give thanks to my donor & his family for gifting me extra time on this earth with my loved ones.
