Have amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS): Want to connect with others

Posted by noteworthy @noteworthy, Feb 3, 2025

I just received a coughesis machine to enable me to cough up phlegm.
when I add the suction device it makes me throw up. The ventillator
machine seems to make my breathing worse. I know I have to get used to it but its difficult. Swallowing pills also has become a problem to we
crunched up my mucinex last night.

@barbarapolo I continue to pray for you that you have a substantial change in status in what sounds like an ineffectual version of care for one of five boroughs of New York City. It is shocking to me honestly and doesn’t hundreds of NYPD call Staten Island their home? My goodness couldn’t you have a police cruiser take you to office with lights flashing? I live in the midwest for quite some time but was born in Brooklyn before the Dodgers moved away. Hang in there Barbara. Our God is kind and merciful and you have a very famous ancestor in “Marco”

@galliganwirth I was a broken hearted young child when the Dodgers moved away. Not my heart was broken when I was diagnosed with ALS in Manhattan. I just went for a second opinion in Jersey and they said I possibly have multifocal motor neuropathy
Which has medication that works to slow it down . Now what do I do?

@barbarapolo I'm heartened to know that you received another opinion. Does the physician in New Jersey plan any more evaluations or suggest treatment for symptoms?

I know other people who sought out 3 or 4 opinions before a solid diagnosis was made. I have worked with physicians and read in textbooks that ALS and other syndromes such as MS have symptoms that do not present the same way in every person. It's a process of looking at each symptom the patient shows because as you have likely experienced there are a number of symptoms - not just one or two symptoms.

I grew up in the L.A. area in the 1960's. I always thought of the Dodgers as "ours" but my mother who grew up in the Midwest always referred to them as the Brooklyn Dodgers.
