Weight gain with Pristiq?
I did a Genesight test and my Dr put me on Pristiq. I have worked hard to keep my weight down my whole life and BAM in a month I have gained ten pounds and the weight keeps going up and up. I can’t seem to do anything about it. I HATE this! I started the med about 3 months ago and have gained 12 pounds. I was on Prozac for 20 years. This is terrible! I would rather go back to that medication.

Thank you for your support. I continue to have terrible sleep problems and believe this is my core problem. I’m interested to know that you were “blasted awake”. That is exactly what happens to me between six and six thirty every morning.
I am convinced that Effexor/Venlafaxine is responsible for a significant number of my mental and physical health problems. It continues to plague me even though it is gone. It is time for a class action suit against the manufacturer.
I often feel like I have to fight against an industry focused on making money from a very vulnerable population. What a business model; sell drugs that make the ill sicker and then call them treatment-resistant, selling them more, for life.
This terrible injustice is changing. How much more suffering will we have to go through before it does change?
Doing something about it helps keep me going.
May you life in peace and good health.
Hello. I’m so sorry for what you are going through. I couldn’t agree with you more about the need for a lawsuit, but I’m not sure how to start a class action suit.
Would you mind sharing some of the health issues you are still experiencing,
how long you were on Effexor, and how long it has been since you last took it. I wish you relief.❤️
Started Pristiq 50mg 10 weeks ago, starting weight 70kg, weight rapidly went up, visible belly fat at 2 weeks after starting, up 20kg in 10 weeks, monitored it weekly, it was going up 2kg per week. Meanwhile pre existing fatty liver , elevated enzymes have not significantly come down. The doctor is not a bit concerned about weight increase. He kept insisting Pristiq does not cause weight gain, I got hold of a UK medical publication that stated in a small percentage of patients there is clinically significant weight gain. I asked to off Pristiq but he asked me my opinion, which I think is a good anti depressant that will not increase body weight and that which can be used in persons with liver problem. He pushed the problem back to me!
