I have spinal stenosis and went to Mayo Clinic. Doctor there recommended having surgery even though I have a pacemaker, allergies to lots of medications and Pain meds, left illiac stent, hashimoto, hemochromatosis, and AFIB. I asked what the alternatives to surgery were at which time he left the room. His staff has been very unhelpful and do not correspond and I have never heard back from him or them. The other folks at Mayo are wonderful and have listened. I have ended up having injections - still in pain but am trying to live with it.

I had to report something once myself, and this office responded to my email and seemed as if they were on it.

@rcortez52 That certainly sounds like a difficult situation but in the positive side, it’s great you can still walk some. Maybe do several short walks instead of one long one. You might also ask about physical therapy although you may have already done that. Just keep looking for ways to help with your pain. I wish you well.

I have spinal stenosis.I read in other patients ' posts about Esther Gokhale's book Eight Steps To A Pain Free Back. I got it and tried her glide-walking technique and stacking technique for sitting. Both worked very, very well for me. My back doesn't hurt any more. Hope yhis will help you. Good luck.

Sounds like a second and even third opinion would be helpful with your multiple medical problems and if the surgical team is not listening to you!
I’ve had severe spinal stenosis for years and was facing radical surgery 8 years ago. Then my surgeon prescribed double protocol of Medrol, I retired from a very physical job, took up swimming, lost 35lbs. Have been able to avoid surgery so far and kept up a very active lifestyle. Medrol may not be appropriate for you but it worth asking about. Good luck!

I’m surprised no one on this thread has mentioned M.I.L.D—« Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression .” It’s meant for canal spinal stenosis; they scoop out excess ligaments around the spine. I had it done in the L4 L5 area, which in my case was mild to moderate. Someone with severe stenosis might find even more relief than I, though I got some. It does not help with foraminal stenosis. The procedure was a piece of cake. A nonsurgical option.
