Struggling with post radiation treatment side effects: Comfort care?

Has anyone received some type of comfort medicine from your medical team to help with every day debilitating side effects ?

Afternoon , I can relate to what you are saying . I too am on a G tube and have been for a year . ISO 1.5 .
Does your nausea go away ?

@ernierogersquamus123 Yes, but it lingers pretty long. I try to make my feedings 45 minutes long and then there is no nausea.

Thanks for responding . I will have to try that .my nausea is so debilitating I am going for an endoscopy August 18 to see if there is an underlying condition. In the meantime
I will try your method .

@ernierogersquamus123 believe there is not much help or treatment for late effects of radiation - except for suggested exercises for severe neck fibrosis, mouth, jaw & neck, and speech therapy/exercises. There is no surgery or injection that provides immediate 'fix".
Up to this point, I am resigned to my situation, and learning to adapt and adjust.

You could have written this for me! Also found that 10 years, then 20 years out, those late effects started to bother me. Yes, I'm resigned and happy to find ways to enjoy life!

My brother has been hospitalized twice since April because he can't eat due to radiation inflammation of his esophagus- stage 4 adenocarcinoma. It's not the cancer that's killing him now, it's the subsequent treatment. He' got a feeding tube but gets full so fast and nauseous that it doesn't provide enough sustenance. It is back to the ER for us probably, so he can be admitted again. Just trying our best, and every and all soft food,liquid, pureed smoothie to keep him from starving to death.

@klmwashington my son in law has had a stomach tube for over six months during and after his radiation treatment. During his recent hospital stay his medical nutrition team worked on trying different more concentrated formulas so that he could have a smaller volume with each feeding. Have you consulted with a nutritionist/dietician for help with this?

Thank you , yes my dietitian has suggested and sent several different formulas . None have helped to diminish nausea

Going for a Endoscopy as soon as the insurance company covers the procedure . My problem is the fact that I lack intestinal fortitude plain and simple. I have to stop whining.

@ernierogersquamus123 I disagree, it’s not complaining - the squeaky wheel gets the grease so don’t stop talking about what you’re experiencing. No one should have to suffer in silence!

@ernierogersquamus123 have you try plain formulas? I couldn't take any flavor it would upset my stomach and I get nausea...Also I get nausea if I don't have any bowel movement for a couple of days.

I have not tried plain formula . Red to ask my dietitian. No problem with bowel movements .
