Dental implants while on ADT for 4-6 month course

They almost always have to put in some bone and spend three months building that up so that it can take the post. If you are on ADT bone healing will be slowed and it can also complicate the healing.

Wait until you are off it and your testosterone has come up Above 280.

@jeffmarc Thanks Jeff, I forgot to mention I did have the bone graph for the implants last year. I was suppose to have the implants earlier this year but then I found out about the PC and that put everything on hold. Now that I have the PC treatment plan sorted out I didn't know if it would be better to get the implants in now instead of after 6 months of ADT where bones may be a lot weaker. Thanks again

If all they have to do is put the post in there may not be an issue. If the post is already in, then it doesn’t matter at all since they just attach the tooth to it. The biggest problem is if you need bone rebuilding.

You could ask the dentist if they need it to rebuild bone around the post when they put it in, if so, it might make sense to wait.

@jeffmarc Hi Jeff, sorry for the confusion. Only the bone graph was done last year. I never went back to have the post or abutment done (what ever they call it). Going to dentist next week and run it past him. From what I read online it definitely can't be done if on bone strengthening meds along with ADT. I'm only on ADT. I was hoping someone might of had implants while on ADT or even after treatment and if any issues. Thanks again!

I had a cap come off three months ago and was still on Orgovyx, the cap could not be put back on and I need an implant. I delayed them pulling the tooth. After they pull the tooth they wait 3 months. I will wait until testosterone is all the way back. Normally they wait 3 months after pulling to give time to heal, then put in post or if needed bone growth. I am going to play it safe. My testosterone should be at a good level in a month

@copyman Speaking as a retired dentist, I would wait on implant placement because you don’t know how you will react to ADT.
There really should not be any significant bone loss in your jaw, but you never know; you do not want to even think that the ADT caused issues if you put implants in now and they fail.
Redoing failed implants is not fun. I just want you to know that there is a school of thought in dentistry that says if you don’t put the implants in within a certain amount of time after the bone grafting is done, then that bone starts to fade away. And this is probably true since the bone is not being loaded by chewing pressure.
However, no one really knows what this window is and I’m sure it varies from person to person. All I can say is do not allow anyone to pressure you into putting the implants in now using that as an excuse.
I wish I could give you a definitive answer, but unfortunately, there isn’t one. If you were a patient in my office, I would advise you to wait and that’s all I can say. Again, that’s only my opinion as I have never encountered a patient in your situation. Hope this helps - even a little. Best,

i have been on lupron and xtandi for going on three years, had four four implants on lower denture about year and a half ago and had no problems what so ever, but they were real careful to make sure there was plenty of bone for the implants.

@heavyphil How long would you wait after 6 months on Orgovyx? I figured the dentist would look to see how much bone is there since I've waited about 9-10 months since bone graph was done
