Scaling skin

Posted by liz223 @liz223, Aug 25, 2017

Is it common for my skin to be scaly at age 85? Is there anything I can do about it?
Thanks for any advice.

Hi @liz223,

Dry, scaly skin is particularly common in older adults. Here is some great information from the National Institute on Aging that you may wish to read: https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/skin-care-and-aging

Are there particular areas which are drier or have more scaly patches, @liz223? Have you thought about consulting a dermatologist?

@kanaazpereira @liz223 I have dry skin on my feet and on my shoulders and upper back. I moisturize there after I shower, always. It really does help. My skin has never gotten scaly, just itchy and my upper back and shoulders would end up bleeding because I would end up scratching. No more, thankfully. I like the scent of many moisturizers too, much less heavy than perfume but pleasant.
