Can you recommend a Prostate surgeon or Radiologist at Mayo Rochester?
I am 53 years old and have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer, Gleason 3+4 =7
I am considering HDR Brachytherapy vs Prostatectomy. I am concerned with long term side effects.
Therefore I am hoping to get recommendations for a skilled surgeon and/or radiologist at the Mayo clinic (Rochester Minnesota).
My concerns are as follows:
Lowest rate of recurrence
Low rated of incontinence
Low rates of ED
If you had a good experience with a Prostate surgeon or Radiologist at Mayo clinic Rochester MN, could you please share their name and why you recommend the doctor ?
Your thoughts and recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much

1 ReactionWell, first off, you’re doing the right thing by choosing Mayo. The Mayo Clinic is a center of excellence for prostate cancer treatment. I had a prostatectomy at Mayo Phoenix when I was 52 (2 years ago)… also a 3+4=7. In my case, the only real option was surgery. Do your research and ask every question you can think of throughout the process. I also recommend this book.

1 Reaction@jeb0505 thanks for the suggestion. I purchased the book and should arrive today. Looks like this is versions 5
My story is basically your story. Dr. Paras Shaw did my surgery. Couldn’t recommend him or Mayo highly enough.
He also co-authored a book on Prostate Cancer/Health I highly recommend that is published by Mayo.
