Taking Calcium or not?
I'm taking Evenity. The nurse giving the injection said I should be taking calcium. The PA in charge of my meds didn't say anything about calcium. What is the general wisdom on taking calcium or not? Please advise.

Evenity can lower blood calcium levels (since new bone is being built), so supplementation of calcium and vitamin D is recommended. Your doctor should be monitoring you every so often with blood tests.

1 ReactionI would go to the 🔍 function at the top of this page. Enter calcium. Should should show quite a few discussions.
What have you discovered in your current research?;
Here is a very current paper on this topic. There a number of others

Reasonable article…questions about supplements for normal people without osteoporosis…
But there is a lot of current supplement research happening in regards to osteoporosis and other metabolic diseases…not to mention if we really need supplements at all, unless there is a deficiency…but then that needs to be investigated too…good “curious” medical professionals are getting very hard to find. Glad these articles are getting posted so we can read them…

3 ReactionsWell, I take several vitamins, such as calcium for bones. Also, I take iron as my doctor recommended, plus I take a multivitamin. So the calcium would be fine to take. (Unless you have an allergy.)

2 ReactionsThey do recommend taking calcium. Sometimes your levels can drop and they have to fix that before continuing therapy.

1 ReactionYes, I am on calcium and drugs such as Evenity and Reclast usually require labs prior to treatment as they cannot be given with low calcium. For people like me that are on armatase inhibitors that cause bone loss, we are for sure on calcium supplements.

1 ReactionYour doctor should be monitoring your calcium levels through blood testing and advise what is recommended for you personally.

2 ReactionsMy doctor recommended I get calcium through food intake not through supplementation. I do take daily magnesium and vitamin D with K2-7. Blood calcium is measured periodically and has maintained.

4 ReactionsUnfortunately due to IBS C, I am unable to take calcium. I do take Vitamin D. Yogurt, probiotics and fiber supplements just cause bloating and gas but are ineffective if taking calcium. Anyone else suffer from severe constipation from calcium?
