Does this get better?
I was just diagnosed a week ago with CKD stage 3A. My eGFR ranges between 62-69 with creatine of 1.2. I have been feeling worse in the past week or two due to anemia which is being treated with Iron supplements but my sleep isn't great and I don't have the endurance that I had even recently. Does this improve over time?

@lb0530 I'm truly sorry your nephrologist is not more helpful. This is where we as patients need to become proactive and get down to work!
As @margarethill mentioned, there are websites that will give you guidelines:
National Kidney Foundation: https://www.kidney.org/nutrition
Renal Support Network: https://www.rsnhope.org/nutrition-data-information-for-the-kidney-diet/
Fresenius Medical Care: https://freseniusmedicalcare.com/en-us/insights/articles/kidney-friendly-diet-improves-outcome/
One thing to keep in mind as we navigate our nutrition and diet needs, is that if you have other conditions that require special diet needs, take that into account, please. For example, I am prone to gout, so I have to think about that. And recently had to switch things around because of cardiac concerns. It may take some effort, but I bet you will find it empowering, to be an active part of your health!

2 ReactionsThank you. Those last two I hasn't heard of and will certainly check them out
I haven't been on this site long and everyone has been so supportive and healthy
@nycmusic I'm new to this forum and appreciate your insight. I am stage 3 and find I am hungry a lot when I try to limit protein
Veggies and fruit don't do it for me. A hunk of cheese will
@lb0530 what about a gradual adjustment to diet ? My diet was already Mediterranean, so I had no major changes…just checked which foods had more protein, salt, sugar, potassium, phosphorus- and adjusted to foods that are more kidney friendly, as I want to stabilize and hopefully improve kidney function…. Fruits and veggies and yogurt help the micro biome, which is important for kidneys…care with yogurt—not the sweetened kind, not too much (dairy must be monitored). I’m finding it doable without eating the most restrictive of kidney diets. But— diet alone doesn’t do it—hydration, exercise and good sleep habits help. Wishing everyone good luck with this ! (PS—- do not take so-called kidney supplements without medical supervision.)

1 ReactionI was already eating a fairly good diet, but do like ice cream. I get a kid's portion occasionally and sometimes buy Oikos triple zero yogurt. My problem is that fruits and veggies don't satisfy my hunger. I feel like I need protein to fill me up
@lb0530 if your kidney #s are not too bad, maybe some protein …very small portions of salmon or turkey are good choices….i even came to like tofu with rice/noodles and variety of veggies. Plant protein can help the diet—check out that food category…i try to limit dairy, except for small amounts of good 2% plain yogurt, which is important for the micro biome…always a salad eater, but now careful as some lettuces carry parasites, so i get farmer’s produce and wash very well…for now, frozen berries and some frozen veggies…always have some small amount of carbs with these veggie things as it helps balance as well as satisfy… I am a believer in TINY treats which help me enjoy a few faves….i really don’t really go for feeling ‘’full’’, as intestinal surgery (18 inches less gut) has indicated eating smaller amounts of foods altogether….sure, it takes effort to get a balanced diet and take stress off of kidneys—-but it is a good tool WE have for our own health. (PS-Daily apples really do support health !)

1 ReactionAll good suggestions. I'll have to try the tofu.
Need to cut out or reduce my intake of ice cream which is difficult because of a Cook Out about 1/4 mile from my housee which has delicious shakes, but am confident I can do it.
