Another R-ALA question

Posted by ronludington @ronludington, Aug 8 7:54am

i've been taking R-ala for a couple years now and it definatly does help. What I'm asking is, how much you take ( I use 300mg twice a day... 10 AM and 6 pm) I've read that anything over 600 a day doesn't make much differance.
Also, it's hard to know what brand actually gives you what it says. I use this one from Amazon, but again who knows if it really is a good one. I get bombarded with adds for other types.
What brands do you use ?

I believe ALA is for person suffering diabetes type neuropathy or can it also help with other types such as unknown cause?

Still looking to see how much you all take, and what brand.

@ronludington Here is the one I take. I had some intense pain for a couple of weeks, about 18 months ago, switched to R-ALA from ALA, and the pain is 95% less frequent.

@heisenberg34 I was starting to get needle sticks in my toes, sheets couldn't touch my toes without pain. Sunburn or cold on bottom of feet... That went away when I started the r-ala. I still have some sunburn type feeling on the bottom of my feet but that is pretty much only when I walk a lot.

@ronludington Interesting. How do you get r-ALA? I see ALA, but not r-ALA.

Was not unequivocally noticing significant difference
Unsure whether to resume?
Idiopathic
It's not been studied with Diabetic.

ALA is Alpha-Lipoic Acid, and it has been shown in clinical trials to reduce the burning pain of all types of neuropathy. See this link on this excellent website for neuropathy information: https://neuropathyresource.com/alpha-lipoic-acid-neuropathy/.

R-Lipoic Acid is a more natural form of ALA. Using ALA, the recommended dose is 600 mg a day - for R-LA, it’s 300-400 mg. Takes around 5-8 weeks to start showing noticeable improvement. The effects build over time, so you need to be patient and consistent.

The brand I use is Genceutics Naturals, R-Lipoic Acid, 300 mg capsules. I buy it online from iHerb — I never buy ANYTHING from Amazon, because there are so many scam/fake products there, and no oversight. You can do a simple search for R-ALA and disregard all the Amazon dreck — just go directly to the supplement websites and read. Make sure the product is made in the US.

@carolynpatten to bad there doesn't seem to be any that are usp verified. There are 3rd party verified, but who knows if you can trust that.

I have the burning and tingling but no pain at night when I put my feet up. Since starting ALA it got better but adding Magnesium really made a big difference. I also us a cream on my feet and lower leg at night before bed. It's so much better now.
