Liver transplant exploratory laparascopy: What is recovery time like?

That surgery was np for me. Went home the same day. Fully recovered about a week. Now the liver transplant was another story but well worth it. Live in CO. Mayo wanted my wife and I to move to AZ while waiting for a liver. Said it could be around 6 months (it was much less) . We had to much going on here and declined but committed to getting to AZ from CO within 24 hrs when they found a liver for me . And they found one, wife and I caught the first red eye out of DIA to Scottsdale and it all worked out great. Time in AZ for the actual transplant and recovery was a little over 2 months. Could not leave till they released me. But again well worth it. Hopefully you guys make the list ! Best of luck !!!

@craigcraig Hey neighbor! We’re from Cheyenne, WY— currently staying in Georgia to be close to good medical care and grandbabies, but our hearts are always in the West. How long did you wait for a liver, once you were on the list? My hubby was just added a few days ago- woot woot! Wondering how long we will be hanging out and answering every spam call— ha ha. We packed our bags, and are making sure the car always has a full gas tank- we are about 6.5 hours from Jacksonville, which is quite a drive when racing the clock for a liver. We’ve thought seriously about flying there also! Where did you stay while recuperating? Air BnB, hotel, etc.? Trying to get my head around that as well… Thanks!

Howdie neighbor ! Howdie Wyoming Cowboy ! I get the close to grandbabies part. I once had a job transfer possibility to Luxembourg . Came home to tell my lovely wife and she said " Hope you are happy there". She was half way joking but to far from our grandkids/ kids who are here so we stayed. So glad your hubby made the list ! My story was miraculous. Returned from a vacation to Europe with bad acid reflux. Local Dr ordered a endoscopy of my esophagus. Which somehow caught a tiny tip of my liver. Which is where 3 cancerous tumors were hiding. Had no symptoms at that point and who knows how long it would have taken to show other wise. Dr said my only hope was a liver transplant. It was a race of getting one vs the cancer spreading outside the liver which would have disqualified me from a transplant and ball game would have been over. Made it to the Mayo list. They told me expect about 6 months till they got me a liver. But they found one in 18 days ! Praise God. Seven hours drive is not to bad at all as they want you there in 24 hrs or less. Drive careful. I have had to go back to AZ 4 times for stenosis and we stayed at extend stay hotels but that's just a matter of preference. But for the actual transplant be prepared to have to be very close to Mayo for around 2 months. So glad you guys made the list ! One more thing. Glad you have your go bag ready. You may want to contact Mayo Jacksonville as they may have a list of recommended places to stay. After transplant you will be there a couple of months so scope out ahead of time and choose wisely. Again best of luck for your hubby. (---:
