Does this get better?
I was just diagnosed a week ago with CKD stage 3A. My eGFR ranges between 62-69 with creatine of 1.2. I have been feeling worse in the past week or two due to anemia which is being treated with Iron supplements but my sleep isn't great and I don't have the endurance that I had even recently. Does this improve over time?

Take a breath. Get on a proper diet to give you some energy. Rest when you need to and take it one day at a time.

7 ReactionsSo I have heard—with 3a, there are things one can do to stabilize your kidneys, to keep from getting worse….hydrating is #1, diet and exercise among them…starting mild exercise might be hard, but once begun, you will just want to keep it going…there’s a lot of info about kidney -friendly living…even things like contrast dye for CTs can injure kidneys..do the research with care, as there are a lot of scams out there ! Good luck !

7 ReactionsI was diagnosed with stage 3A a year ago and adopted a kidney-friendly diet on my own. My eGFR was 59 and is now 71 (stage 2). I have found that this group; Renal Support Network; The National Kidney Foundation; The Renal Diet Cookbook for the Newly Diagnosed /Zogheib; among others are valuable resources. I finally got to see a nephrologist in April. I will see her next week to learn results from bloodwork she ordered. I don't sleep all that well, either, and will ask the nephrologist for advice. Best of luck to you.

2 ReactionsI think there's an initial shock to your diagnosis. Everyone has left some good tips. Awareness is half the battle. I take jardiance which is to slow progression of kidney disease. You may want to see if this is an option.

2 Reactions@colombiagiy Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. To answer your question, it could get better. I was diagnosed with CKD stage 4 and also had anemia associated with my kidney disease. My eGFR bounced between 14 - 42. I got busy and learned about CKD, eGFR & other kidney function labs, proper hydration & renal nutrition. It is important to also find out the cause of your CKD. Mine was due to diabetes and hypertension. When you know the cause of your CKD you can work with your providers to customize the best treatment plan for your situation. I have a primary, an endocrinologist and a nephrologist. At present my eGFR has stabilized to the low 30’s. I am now CKD stage 3.

1 ReactionLike any other health condition, dealing with CKD early on gives us a better chance at stabilizing and even improving our kidney health….personally I don’t believe the diet has to be super-severe for 3a,….it really isn’t all that hard to eliminate a few critical foods/condiments, and to limit others….i haven’t totally given up simple grilled salmon, but eat far less—and keep mental track of the protein i eat in a day to avoid overloading the kidneys…as to dairy, i only eat yogurt sometimes, small amounts, as if it is a light topping for fruits…cheese is now a rare treat, tiny amount….replaced cereal milk with almond milk….treats can happen, but less often and much smaller. enjoy hydrating more ! I’m lucky —I like many kidney friendly veggies and fruits. Bottom line, it’s a decent start, one that most people can handle. Good luck one and all who post here.

1 ReactionNot happy with my nephrologist. Getting no guidance on nutrition. All I've got from her in a year and a half is to drink 45 to 55 ounces of water a day and watch my sodium intake. Can some of you stage 3 people who get guidance give me some guidance as to whaT you are being told by your providers?
@lb0530 Yes I can give you some ideas on where to find kidney friendly recipes. Favors has meals for those of us looking for ideas. There is also American kidney foundation. They have some ideas. But now that I'm on dialysis, I've found that blood work tells you what you need to avoid and what you need more of.
