Hamstring tendonopathy pain control
Does anyone have chronic hamstring tendonopathy? If so, do you have any pain control tips besides my ongoing PT care? It seems like I have tried everything and nothing helps. I have had three ischial bursa injections with minimal relief.

Hi there, I just read your post. Can you please explain to me what this is? I have really debilitating pain. It’s not coming from my back is coming from the side of my legs
my legs. I don’t know if you consider those hamstrings or not and right now, the doctors can’t figure out where it’s the pain is coming from. I’d like to know more about this and what your Symptoms are. Thank you so much!
@unrulygirl a deep pain localized in my butt. It is directly on the Ischium ( sit bone) where hamstrings tendon inserts and ischial bursa overlays that. I have had three ischial bursa injections which helped some but pain was always there. They feel the injections gave me some relief because of the swelling inside that area. Stairs hurt, walking on an incline and it hurts BAD to sit!!!!

1 Reaction@nancyjo1490 I have this as well and wondered about having a cortisone injection. I’ve had gluteal tendinopathy and then a hip replacement and now in recovery I’ve developed hamstring tendinopathy as well as IT band syndrome. Cortisone never helped my gluteal tendinopathy but I have to start working again at the end of Aug and I’m desperate. I’m hoping maybe this will be a bit different and I’ll be able to sit to work while I continue with physio etc.

I've had this as well, for years and it only takes a stumble or one wrong twist to set it off. I've had the injections, but that's only a temporary fix and my rheumatologist had advised me that ultimately, adding steroids into already damaged tissue will weaken the tissue over time. And since I already have had too many steroids, I now have secondary adrenal insufficiency which requires daily prednisone. So, no more steroid shots in any joints for me. I have special purple cushions in the car, I sit on well cushioned chairs. Get some physical therapy and learn good stretching techniques. I also love sitting on an extra long heating pad that covers bitt to neck. Good luck.
@rdf56 thank you for this information about what you are dealing with and how you manage. No more steroid injections for me either.

1 ReactionI had a hamstring reattachment and the one hamstring that was attached and abused for decades had tendinitis. A simple loss of balance on a stepstool will make that hamstring activate and I am back in trouble. Several injections all helped for a while, but for a long-term I have landed on high-quality lidocaine patches. The thin cheap discount patches don’t do it, but the thick Endo patches have done a good job. I can sit for quite a while and not think about that particular part of my butt. By simply not using that hamstring I can get it to stop hurting and can occasionally sleep on my left side, but with the patch, I can sleep sometimes. Splitting the patch vertically so that it also covers the tuberosity where the chains used to reattach the hamstrings is a bonus. I’ve been tempted to try just some padding to determine whether it is the gel thickness or the lidocaine that actually helps..
