lung cancer rt upper lobe

If it is lung cancer, there are many forms of treatment available now more than ever before....I have had lung cancer twice, 31 years ago, stage 3b and was told terminal....I went to Sloan Kettering and they were a little more positive but this inoperable tumor became operable bc of the chemo which shrunk it, when they went in to look after 3 months of chemo , the tumor was gone... Now 31 years later, a nodule presented which is malignant, stage 1, and I got radiation SBRT, 5 treatments, right now the nodule is not viable...it was successfully treated... .There is so much hope here..The pet scan and biopsy let you know exactly what you're dealing with and then you will make decisions on your treatment, if it is cancer.... good luck and today I will say a prayer for you...

Absolutely! This will ent the death sentence it once was. If they find the nodule is cancerous they will send it for genomic testing. Some people have a mutation that allows them to take pills instead off chemo. And chemo is not as difficult as it used to be.

At patient summits sponsored different foundations and trips to Washington to meet with congressional and senate staff and members, there are quite a few octogenarians participating.

Welcome and Yes, absolutely there is hope and lots of it !
Like you I had a CT scan that showed cancer. PET and a biopsy followed. I had a mass on my right middle lobe, I had surgery 4 months ago to remove it and my lobe. My pathology came back not needing any other treatment. No chemo etc… I had my first post surgery scan recently and it showed no recurrence of cancer.
Lots of deep breaths, knowing indeed there is hope 🤗

@catdoris welcome to Mayo Connect - we're glad you found us! there are lots of us living with lung cancer. one thing that helped me is knowing that much of the research you find online is already out of date. people are definitely living longer and there are many more treatments available now. it's good that you're getting more info by doing the PET scan and biopsy. that will help your doctors best help you. let us know what you learn.

I just had a PET scan for a 1.7 x 1 cm right upper spiculated lung nodule.
Waiting on Dr to see next step. I'm sure it will be a biopsy.
This nodule has been under surveillance for 2 years now.

@sallik74 a biopsy sounds like a reasonable next step. kudos to you for doing your follow up scans and catching anything before it becomes more problematic. let us know what the results are from your PET.
