Started Orgovyx 5 weeks ago & am having adverse symptoms.

After starting Orgovyx 5 weeks ago, I feel a significant decline in my mental health. I had been on Eligard Injection for the previous 10 months (also had 6 weeks of EBRT and have been on Abiraterone for 10 months). Since Orgovyx, there has been a noticeable shift, primarily in depressive episodes. Does it make sense to go back to Eligard or stick with Orgovyx given the reduced cardiovascular impact? I'm still waiting for my oncologist to give me insight (treatment team said stop Orgovyx and oncologist will reply).

The fact that you are on abiraterone Can explain some of the problems. It reduces your testosterone much lower than ADT. Because you are on it, it will take longer for your testosterone to come back, Pretty much eliminating the benefit of being on Orgovyx.

Abiraterone Gave me high blood pressure, Five afib Events and a lot more hot flashes.

The low testosterone is what causes the emotional issues. Doesn’t happen to everybody, but it does happen to a lot of people.

Doing a lot of exercise can offset some of the emotional issues from these drugs. Doesn’t work for everybody and some people do need to have mood stabilizers.

@jeffmarc Jeff, your explanation makes a lot of sense! This is why I love this group. I have a prostate cancer oncologist friend (not my doc) who frequently asks for insight from my perspective. We who are enduring this journey are the real-deal imbedded reporters for the journey. I gratefully appreciate all of you who have share your insights and experiences. Since starting treatment, I have longed for this community.

Hi,
Any idea on how long the other two ADT type drugs stay in your system? I can’t imagine what that must be like with possibly three ADT drugs in your system.

@clevelandguy
Lupron has a half-life of 3 hours. Orgovyx Has a half-life of 25 hours.

Neither drug is going to be in the system for a long time, They will both have lowered the testosterone and that is the only common thing.

@jeffmarc According to Google:
“Patients on Lupron for a year or more can expect a much more gradual return of normal energy levels, muscle mass, and hormonal balance. Lupron typically takes anywhere from 1 to 3 months to wear off after a 1-month dose, but it can take 3 to 12+ months after long-acting depot shots or multi-dose treatments”. I have heard like comments from people taking Lupron on various forms.
