Has anyone use a spinal cord stimulator for neuropathy ??

I had a Spinal cord stimulator implanted a few years ago for spinal stenosis and two years ago I came down with small fiber neuropathy. I increased the intensity of the device , and it seems to help.

interesting to hear about the scar tissue, and the conflict with the SCS. I have had the Abbott Eterna for two years, and it was performing well, relieving the pain up to 2-3 months ago. I will see the neurosurgeon who implanted it next week and discuss about removing it. I have worked with the reps as well, and after 5-6 visits, they can't seem to find the sweet spot to chill the pain.

My first device which was a Saint Jude was burned out during my right hip surgery since I did not have it in a surgical mode.I had a second one put in 2 years ago and it really doesn’t take away all the pain. When your desperate you seem to try anything.

@amventim1 I know exactly what you mean. A few years ago I had a lot of lower back and buttock pain from a fall. I got decent relief from a cocktail of drugs prescribed by my neurologist. I got greedy and wanted more. So, I went to an orthopedic surgeon who ordered another MRI (third one) He told me I had spondylolisthesis. I got fused at L5-S1. It id nothing. I heard the now infamous words. "Failed back surgery syndrome". Wish I could go back and NOT get that surgery done. How are doing these days overall? I hope you have found something that helps.

I had a Medtronic SCS implanted back in 2018. Along with my meds it dropped my pain from a 7-8 down to about a 2. Then, for some unknown reason, everything seemed to stop working. All my old pain returned. I had all the hardware removed in May of 2024. New pain doc recommended the trial of Boston Scientific's Wave Writer. They were not able to get the trial lead into the "sweet spot" due to scar tissue. Insurance will not approve permanent implant without positive result from trial. Hope this helps.

@heisenberg34 My husband had a Medtronic stimulator suggested by his pain management doctor and had the same program. The remote they gave him was 8 years old! He had the stimulator removed and on the advice of his Neurosurgeon went with a Nervo Stimulator and has had it for over two years without incident. It gave him his life back.

Yes have one in back has not worked, looking to remove it doesn't work at all now quit about five months ago. Half the problem was they didn't seem to know how to set it up right, my opinion

My first one died two years ago
Not that it did much to reduce my pain, but as you well know when your desperate I had a second one put in which also doesn’t do a hell of a lot either.

Still looking for anyone who had a SCS for a while, had it removed, and then was able to have a different one implanted.
