CKD . Metformin stopped

My husband 89. CKD. Stage 3.
Stopped metformin 3 days ago due to his MRI w contrast this Wed.
Last blood work glucose 109.
Will his blood sugar spike in 3 days given his diet is controlled

My husband 89 has CKD stage3. His dr stopped metformin 3 days before and 3 days after his MRI w contrast . Will his blood sugar go up

@surjee Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Generally speaking Metformin helps to control blood sugar in diabetics. When some with CKD has an MRI with contrast the contrast can be hard on the kidneys. Does your husband have both diabetes and CKD? If your husband hasn’t already made the Metformin medication adjustment and had the MRI I would ask your husband’s doctor to clarify his instructions about making these changes. If this has already happened make sure to get clear instructions about Metformin medication dosing and monitoring blood sugar now.
