You are not alone ❤️

Just wanted to share this message with others as I’m navigating mental health issues after restarting an antidepressant. The side effects have been really hard on me this time and I’ve been struggling since December. One of the side effects of mental health/anxiety/depression are often feelings of isolation and loneliness so just wanted anyone out there to know there are people here for you. If you need an encouraging word or just someone to read your story or about how your doing, someone to share a piece of your day with, know you’re not alone and we’re in this together! Let’s keep each other encouraged on our journeys! Would love to know what’s been most helpful for you on your mental health journey! I’m finding community is extremely important. I think I shied away from certain communities for a while to protect myself and am learning how important it is for healing. Anyway, just want you to know you’re not alone and we’re going to get through this. Love you and hang in there!

Wellbutrin turned me into a selfish monster.

Hi @climbingmountains81 - I don't remember all my side effects precisely when I was starting on buproprion (Wellbutrin), since it was 15 or so years back, but I remember not being even emotionally. I think it was some anxiety and nervousness, irritability, and my mood swinging a lot.

It really did even out, though I had a hard time believing that when I was going through it. I just chose to believe what the pharmacist had told me about "a few months" to get my body accustomed to it, and plugged through.

What are you and your doctor thinking about trying next for an antidepressant for you, climbingmountains81?

@lisalucier so I decided to give the Wellbutrin a try again, this time NOT using expired meds, and it was a completely different experience! Feels like how it did the first time I was on it. So feeling hopeful the Lexapro/ Wellbutrin combo will work for me once again! I can’t believe how much different I feel already after just two days back on the medicine. It’s wild. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

@climbingmountains81 - glad to hear that. How are you feeling today?

@laurabamford4015 - you mentioned something about buproprion (Wellbutrin) turning you into a selfish monster. Will you talk more about what effect you felt this medication had on you? I assume you and your doctor went with another medication for you?

@lisalucier
Hi Lisa,
I’m usually if anything too considerate and thoughtful. But when I took Wellbutrin, I became a more full of myself and not in a good way. I usurped à
swim member’s locker which I felt was justified as I was the one who got a new lock for it. She was waiting for the club to replace the locker, but I got them to do it for me so I felt I should be able to have that locker. I told her what I had done and she called me and said she thought it was unfair so I gave it back to her. It was very uncharacteristic of me to do something so underhanded.
I have a friend who also became a bit of a tyrant on Wellbutrin and was very rude to a waitress for no good reason. She stopped taking Wellbutrin as well.
I am now on Zoloft and, although I still suffer from depression, but I’m less depressed nowadays.
I have family members who take Wellbutrin with great success but with any pharmaceutical drug your own brain chemistry and physiology contribute to your response to the drug. At least that’s my theory as I’ve taken other medicines that work great for some people and were not good for me.
