How the thymus gland affects autoimmunity?
Has anyone looked into a connection between the thymus gland health and autoimmune diseases, like PMR? Evidently the thymus gland is to "train" our T-cells to not attack our bodies. Would love to know if any of your docs have mentioned this or ordered scans of your thymus gland.

I have never heard anything about the thymus gland and how it relates to autoimmunity. There might be a connection.

I have heard that people with thyroid problems have a difficult time tapering off prednisone but I don't know why. Other than having a similar name, I didn't know if the thymus and the thyroid are lelated. I googled it and found out they aren't related but apparently both glands can malfunction.

Your question has sparked my curiosity. I'm much more interested in hormones ever since I learned about the hormone cortisol and the adrenal glands. Now I have a neuroendocrine cancer so I am trying to learn everything I can about hormones, Except for testosterone, I never cared about my hormones. I don't know if I'm lucky or not but I was already seeing an endocrinologist who is now playing a bigger role in my life than my rheumatologist.
